drl's on a 04

GUEST
After reading all the posts on how to set the Drl's to always on for the 02 and 03 models, an the differences betwen the two years, i am getting ready to try it on my 04. I am a little hesitant because I have not heard from anyone with an 04 that has actually done it yet. Does anyone know if the procedure is similar to the 03 style or did GM change the electricial panel yet again??
any assiatance would be greatly appreciated.

suggest posting this over in the always on DRL thread, too. Perhaps WestTxAvy knows.

Hi deepsleep!
WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!

I am not sure about the 04 model yet. I am trying to get updated GM tech info that includes the 04s.
If we have a brave soul w/ a 2004  we could go thru a visual check first, then a one by one wire disconnect to verify. (y)

From all appearances, should be the same as the '03. GM has been known to hide silly things, but with the overall major rework of electrical systems from '02 to '03, I wouldn't expect any significant change right away.

Thanks WesTek.. I am more of a reader than a poster. I have been reading alot lately. This is a great site, lots of good info. I really like the look of the amber drl's and want to start modding my truck, but after seeing all the changes from 02 to 03, I'm a little hesitant at the moment. This weekend I'll get the bulbs and install them at least. I'm sure you guys will figure it out eventually :) I'll keep watching and if you need any help I'll do what I can.

Bringing this one to the top. Just got a 2004 and looking to make the same mod. Also looking for the four on mod. I had these on my 02 and looking to do the 04. Any brave souls out there?

Just wondering if anyone with a 04 has attempted this mod yet. I keep checking the boards but the always-on drl's posts have kinda died off...

I done the all 4 on with the diode 2004 model. I will use another diode for the DRL's. I want all light options so i will connect it to the pink/white light. I will let you know.

Dragve, you followed which instructions?? for the 03? I was thinking of opening up the electricial panel and comparing them to the pics on this site to see if it resembles the 03 electricial box. If it does I might try it. I would like to do the all4on mod as well...I do like WesTexAVY's way of doing the mod so that I can turn the lights off if I so choose. Looks like I might have to break down and buy the service manual for the Avy..

For all 4 on follow WesTexAVY instructions for the o4. Havent had time on the DRL yet. The pins are ABC accross and 123 down. D3 is 4 across and 3 down. Enjoy!

DRL mod works on 2004 using diode on green/black and white wire as described. This is the best way to do the full time DRL's. All light functions on/off work off the park lights at night. Normal day operation remains unchanged.

Do we ahve a proven method for Full Time DRL's on the 2004 Avalanche? Please advise...

WesTexAVY's instructions for the Improved fulltime DRL's on the 03 models works on the 04 models as well. Both Dragve and myself have done the mod along with the all4on mod for the high beams. The location and color of the wires are the same as an 03. I do not know if the mod works on non-cladded AVY's as mine has cladding. This really is an easy mod to do once you get to the underside of the electricial panel. Good luck :)

I have also received confirmation from member NC2500AV on this mod to his 2004.

A big (y) (y) (y) to members dragve, deepsleep and NC2500AV for blazing the trail for other 04 members.

Thanks to you all. I pick up my 2004 on Monday night.
It will be the first mod I do, next to re-nstalling the LOF, Corsa Exhaust, SS lights adn a slew of other things for me to get the 04 up to par with my 2002 I traded in.

;D

Mind sharing the info with the rest of us 2004 owners?

Here should be the link to the post. You need reply #233 by WesTexAVY on the "better 2003 fulltime DRL's" just follow his instructions. The 04 and the 03 are identicial. good luck :)

Deepsleep is awake on this one >:D >:D
Here is a copy of an e-mail to another 04 member:

I realize that monster thread for the Full Time DRLs is very confusing. I'll try to clarify.........

In post # 115 is "How to get to it". This applies no matter which year or which mod is done.
In post # 116 is the 2003/2004 1st version that entails just moving one wire to achieve the Full Time DRLs. Advantage = no parts required and very easy. Disadvantages= Not the original circuit and the DRLs are on from key on to key off (no over-ride or control), and you lose the DRL flash when using the keyless remote unlock/lock. You also have to remove both the green and red connectors to do this mod.

In post #223 is the "Better Method" 2nd version w/ diode. I explain in this post that if someone did the "move 1 wire" mod previously....to put it back to original first. If they didn't, just ignore reversing. Advantages= The DRL circuit is returned to(or stays) original and you now have some control or over-ride w/ the headlight defeat switch. You do not have to remove the connectors in the underhood fusebox and pull pins out to do this mod. Same applies to the ALL4onHigh mod. Disadvantages = Parts are required (diodes & connectors). The word "diode" freaks people out, so they may be more comfortable doing the "Move 1 wire" version. The 2nd version is actually a little easier I think.

In short- disconnect battery, post #115 to gain access, post #116 to the the Version #1 mod OR post #223 for the Version #2 NRL/DRL mod (don't undo the connectors, no 7mm nutdriver required) , do the All4onHigh mod while you are there, put back together.....Done.

Either version is easily reversed. If you use the tap connectors (see post #235 for issues). If you solder, it would be a better connection, but harder to reverse if needed.

Let me know if I can help any further,

HTH (y) ;)

WesTexAVY..

Thanks for your instructions on doing the full time drl's and the all 4 on at once mods. It was simple once I understood what to do.

I doubt there is another mod I can do for less than $3 that is as cool as those 2 are.

Thanks again.

Chris

This definately works on a Cladded 2004 Av

I will add the following:

Use an 8mm socket for disconnecting the negative battery cable.

The diodes are still available from Radio Shack and still in the same bin cabinet and are $0.59+tax for a package of 2 as of 1/4/04.

GO TO HOME DEPOT FOR THE TAP CONNECTORS!!! The Buchanan tap connectors are still available and are $0.69+tax for a pack of 4 as of 1/4/04. Get the package of Red Tap Connectors labled as 18 Gauge in size. These Buchanan connectors have none of the issues associated with the 3M Brand and you WILL get a 100% connection when the Buchanan connectors are used for both the diode and the associated wires you are connecting to!!!

Props & Karma to WesTexAVY and all who did the research on this mod, words cannot descrribe how well it works, how easy it is to do and how good it looks after!!!

Here's the pudding and the proof!!!
