Although this article compares stock VS modified on a 6.0 instead of our beloved 5.3, I found it to be incredibly informative. The performance modifications they've made are exactly what I'm doing to my AV. The aFe filter they're using is the exact same one in the Volant kit for the AV. They also installed the Magnaflow muffler, and used a Hypertech III. Prety impressive dyno results for each upgrade along the way, with a final assessment of all of the 3 pieces working together VS stock. ENJOY! ;)

Chevy small block performance article

i have this magazine. i have read the article, and was impressed. i think i will go ahead and invest in the HPIII. i will probably get one after the holidays. :B:

Well I got the magnaflow muffler and full 3 piping....still have to invest in headers in order to maximize the exhaust..... :B:

Interesting article. I particularly like how they put the truck back on the dyno after each mod to show what the effect is of each one. Based on the results, it seems like the exhaust and programming are worth the money, but changing the intake from stock might not necessarily be worth the bucks considering the small gain made.

I have two of the 3 mods, but I am thinking of going with a predator programer instead of the HPP III, because it takes only 10 mins to load the new settings and 5mins to change back to stock & it offers whole truck diagnostics while you are driving, and you can even plug it into your cigarette lighter so the batteries don't go dead. I really like the diagnostics feature, There has been a couple of times where I could have used it when my AV was having some troubles, but I plan to either get this for chistmas or after the new year.

Thanks, James R.

I'm still waiting for some more time out on the market for the Diable...sounds great with the diagnostics tool programmed in and everything....the Hypertech sounds good also...been around for a very long time ...the only turn off is the fact you need to WOT in order to feel the effects from what other members have posted..

I would like to feel an overall difference throughout the entire rpm band....so we'll have to wait and see....like wine..it's gets better with age... :B:

The HPP3 tuning starts in at about 80% throttle as I recall from my correspondence with Hypertech. Increased performance at partial throttle openings is easily accomplished by modulating the pressure exerted with the right foot. ;)

An interesting article...

One disspointment is that they didn't start with a stock truck. That truck already had an aftermarket cat-back exhaust, which they said had a poor installation causing restrictions. Now, how does that compare to the stock exhaust? Is it better than stock (meaning the gains over a stock system will be higher) or do the restrictions make it worse than stock (meaning the gains over a stock system will be lower)?

Still, 16% horsepower gains, and 13% torque gains are kind of interesting...
