I found this out through pure serendipity.

Like most non-smokers, I keep change and other random things in my ashtray (I went with bench seats). Tried pulling the keys out last night, and that cigarette-holder-thingy made it hard, so I had to take it out (like you were emptying it)....

Lo and behold, I had the ashtray in my hand and looked at the cubby-hole... MUCH bigger without the insert, and nothing to snag on! (y)

So now my ashtray is sitting on my desk, and the cubby hole has like $4 in quarters and several keys ;D

Gotta a pic sondering what yours looks like with ench seats on 03.....

my buckets onj 02 ashtray ...well if you remove it it leaves nothing really...

I have an '02 with bench seats and if you take the ashtray out it leaves a big hole...

...in which mmdavidw put the control module for my strobe lights, it fits perfectly ;)

Kim

But they do not work... :7: so I guess you could put yer ashtray back...

You just take the ashtray insert out, but leave the door. It might be a 2003-only thing, I'm not sure. But it definitely has to be bench seats.

Before...

I took your mod a step further...

I removed chrome trim from the ashtray, leaving a removable black mini bin! The chrome trim is held on by four small bendable clips on the underside. Bend them up and viola, the birth of a removable mini bin. Just pop the mini bin back in and flip up the door. :)

So this is a mod, eh?

my 02 ashtray slides out and well is different....thanks for pic though

This might be a little off the subject, but I have the same ashtray that is pictured and I can't get it to stay closed. It's not open the whole way, but when you close it you can push it up and it kind of "pops" into place. Well mine "pops" but then it opens back up. How do I fix this?

Do you have anything in the tray? If it fills the space a certain way the ashtray door won't close... I found out a wad of keys won't fit there :)

I pulled mine out the day I picked up my Av.

About a year later, I bought this gadget at Costco...

Gets colder with this:

And they come with this for other drinks (Hot or Cold):

But when they mean travel, it doesn't mean holding the cold while your Av is parked somewhere. It's really NG for that. But long road trips, it's really nice.

You're plugged into the lighter there (which is on your ign switch) the other outlet has power full time.. that would keep the drinks hot and cold (y)

I've got the same problem with my 04 Z71. Did you have any luck fixin it?

No, I've had no luck getting it fixed. I even took it to the dealer and they ordered me a complete new ashtray. It does the exact same thing. I'll keep you posted if I ever figure out how to fix it. And let me know if you figure it out first.

Will do, thanks. I've taken it apart and opended the little plastic arrow looking button on the end, seems like it helped alittle but if you open the ashtray again is starts all over!

That one is hot all the time in mine... And yep SS it'll run down a battery, even @ 2.8A . (It's around 3A @ 14V.) Fortunately, that'll take a while. But I did do that. One of my batteries is only 17AH (the starter battery), I have two other's I just switch either one in, but it still doesn't do the battery any good..

The point was the interior heats up, it won't chill worth a damn.

It loves a bit of A/C blowing on it (gently works fine) - not so much for cold, just more for hot air pockets around it, even though it's fan pumps the heat transfer ok.

But, It was only $20. ;D

Hey Sperry, what are those other buttons hanging down in front of the hot/cold gadget?

One's to launch RPG's at ricers that have more bass than torque..

One's to launch ricer tailpipe-seeking potatoes. Damn weedeaters are all over...

The other's a mic, so I can yell at them over their loud pipes & amps.

Why are they louder on the outside than Av's?

--------------------

Really, now... >:D

Actually, the two back ones are frequency switches for the modulators (headphones).
The mic is the Y91 amp's noise-cancelling mic. Similar to this:
Audio Pilot

I just need the `round tuit to mount it properly.
