Hay all.
;D
Well I was showing the guys yesterday at the SC club a really easy mod you can do and its cheep, it will extend the life of your radiator. ?I have been doing this on all my trucks since I can remember.

The grill on the AV as with most trucks is useless for keeping the bugs out of the radiator. :-[ ?I do not like the bra look or something on the front of my grill (except may be the new billet grill.) So here is what I have done.

1. ? ? ?Go to you local hardware store (lowes, HD etc) and get some fiberglass screening about 5? should do ya. (Measure your grill length.)
2. ? ? ?Pickup some marine adhesive by goop.
3. ? ? ?Remove the grill
4. ? ? ?Lay the screening on the backside of the grill and trim to fit.
5. ? ? ?Use tape to hold it in place to make your trimming easier.
6. ? ? ?Now just glue it in place. Let it set up for about 30 to 60 min (depending on your glue)
7. ? ? ?Reinstall the grill. Try not to drive the truck for several hours until the glue hardens solid. Once that is done drive it crazy. The marine goop takes 24hrs to set up fully.
8. ? ? ?I no longer worry about bugs in the radiator. I use to live in FL and I still do long trips to FL and MA area and my radiator looks like new. No love bugs etc in it.

No problems with overheating as far as I can tell. Like I said I have done this in all my trucks in eh past with no ill affects. ?:D

Enjoy.

I saw this mod yesterday that Corvettejoe is talking about and it is really nice. In fact, he had a couple of "still alive" catches in the net!!! >:D >:D I know his radiator is not going to get all cloged up with bugs with this mod. I wish I had this mod on my old Dodge....I was following a pulp truck carrying ground up wood, and it was spraying all over me. 30 miles down the road my truck overheated due to all the chips in the radiator. :7:

Another possible radiator protector is one that I have used for several years and seems to work very well.

I use the black plastic screen material with the 1/2 inch square openings. I loosley fold it into the space between the grill and the radiator. It stays in place and can be easily removed for occassional cleaning. The loose folds seem to catch those nasty things that radiators don't like, such as rocks, wood chips, pieces of metal and those really large bugs.

To date I have noticed no change in operating temperature in summer or winter and the plastic has never stuck to the radiator. The material is cheap and available at most local hardware stores.
