I really liked this idea...EarthQuake must have been a genius when he thought of it >:D I thought this was the more appropriate place for it.

What if we actually had the ECRM "sponsored by" a local chapter and it rotates every year or however often it happens. That way maybe a local coordinator could be the runner and scouter, idea person and host to the larger planning team when they needed to come in to town. The local coordinator may have a better idea on things to do and timing of events and special events that the planning group may not get on their one or two visits. Also the burden is spread outside a planning group and the club members get to visit a sponsoring town where there is a local chapter. Plus it could bring more of the lurking locals out to meet the group. Each chapter could put their own little "flavor" to the meet too.

The local coordinators who wanted to have their chapter sponsor would just put thier name in a hat and have it drawn. Like the Olympics. We did this in scouts too, way back when, visiting other scout camps for an annual meeting hosted by a particular camp and it worked really well.

Just another idea.

Another thought, based on reading this thread, plus the "ideas" thread. What if we had a "strategic" plan, covering several years (3 to 5). Draw a rough circle around the core of the east coast area, and move the regional meet each year, so that the distances driven by participants would equalize over time. Then, seek a small core group to plan and sponsor the event in each area. Based on the success of ECRM-1, it looks like the event has the "legs" for it.

Where the event is held is, in large part based on who is willing to get involved. It was clear in Pigeon Forge that the people who put it together did an enormous amount of work. We all know who you are, and most of us who were there have said (and say again) "thank you". It cannot always be just the same group, or they will inevitably burn out.

For whatever inconsequential glitches some may have noted, the thing was a huge success. When and if there is an event within a reasonable distance, I would be willing to help out. I think a reasonable distance for repeated trips is about 3 hours, give or take.

Just a thought.

I agree on the issue of planning - where ever the event is has a direct influence on who can and will help - a 4 - 5 hour drive one way would not stop me from helping a great deal - but of course I could not drive 2 days one way just to help plan an event. I would love to attend every meet there is but it just aint possible - so as most of us tend to do I will have to pick and choose - no offense to anyone as I said I would love to hit them all. I have been to some 20 or so local meets and 12 or so big events and I can tell you as others can as well - it is an experience you will not forget! So in conclusion I will be there if I can and if not know I will be there in my heart! I am not sure what time I can take when and if I choose a new job but it will be important to me to try.
