Edelbrock Headers

Why they make an incredible set of headers. They are cheaper than most others and their performance gains are the same.

For me the Edlebrocks were a no brainer

Edelbrock should stick to intakes, like Hooker should stay with headers.....if you get my drift....
I don't agree. I personally didn't care for their shocks, buy they are doing great work with their aluminum heads (at least in the Mopar world).

Look, we were talking about headers. If you would like me to be more pointed. Nearly 50% of their headers we have installed have factory leaks where the primary tubes meet the header to head flange. When that isn't the case, they have improperly machined (ie built up the flange boss for positive gasket seal) so the header can't be surfaced. Then end result, if there is warpage after the welding process, and some are warped badly, it can't be surfaced out.

Furthermore, I have never seen a carb header that leaked more than not at the collecter welds.

There simply is not a lot of QC involved here. You might as well get a Pace Setter Carb header.

But that's just my opinion

You said that you install a lot of headers. When there are leaks what do you do? Does the customer go with a new header?

I cant argue build quality. Thats not my area of expertise. I can tell you that they have done a lot of good things for my truck cheaper than any other header out there.

My exhaust system so far has cost me $1700. I am not a modding machine but I only insist on putting the best replacement parts on my truck. I dont care how much it costs. If its expensive I'll just have to save up. I have done a lot of research, gone to many forums and talked to local exhaust shops to see waht they say. They all basically said Edlebrock or TOG were the best. This is what goverened my decision.

Powersurge,

What we have to do with primary tube leaks at the flange is firstly find them by flame testing all welds with a light oxy accetylene flame, wire feed weld them, then build up the machined welded portion of the header where it meets the head, then surface those welds down nearly flat so you have a true flat surface for the gasket to seal to the head.

If the header has leaks where the primary tubes enter the collector, we send the header back for warranty.

It sounds like you have a nice exhaust system. What are you running, other than the headers?

As far as the most popular CARB header, cleary on the west coast it is JBA followed by TOG. Edelbrock was a "reboxer" when they first entered the header industry, I couldn't tell you what they do now since we no longer promote their header products. Currently, they sure look like a Gibson header.....

As I said before, we have seen more factory defects in the Edelbrock headers, followed closely by Dynomax headers.

I can not talk about QC either but I was there for Powersurges header install and what I can say is that the product(headers) looked very well built. Thick wall tubing, good ceramic coating inside and out, welds were very good in my opinion, they went on like a dream. It was the rest of the exaust that was a beotch that day. I would and are going to be going with a set on mine in the near future.

Bonedog

Good Post, Thanks for that info.

I am running the Borla Turbo XL Dual Outs. Where the exhaust set up became expensive is the custom piping I needed for the Roll Pan Exhaust tips.

If you look above in this thread I have a video attached of my exhaust borla only and another clip of my borla and Edlebrocks.

Worth every cent if you asked me. Maybe just maybe I should have gone with the Borla Headers. I didn't because the performance numbers were close but the two prices were not.

Anyone else have any comments on Edelbrock headers? I've been toying with doing this mod for awhile and now with a custom exhaust shop in town well... Seems like a shame to have a nice mandrel bent SS system with a new Magnaflow hooked up to the stock manifold. Right?
