OK so I?m gonna try to do this I hope I give you enough detail and I don?t sound like a dumbass!I bought a 2004 Chevy avalanche Z 71 about a year ago and it has some electrical issues at least that?s what I?m thinking..it?s dash lights at night when you?re driving on the road all the dash lights will go out but if you hit on the driver side panel they all turn back on, That?s just one of the issues I don?t know if this all ties into one thing but the next issue is my brake lights on the Driver side they?re just fine until you push on the break and the driver side brake lights go out, But as soon as you let go with them they turn back on. And the next issue is my windows will go Up and down as they please even if the key is not in the car ,my rear windows roll down bye themselves and I have to go in there and roll them back up kind of weird when there?s no power to the Truck. And last but not least is all of a sudden my truck when I go to get in it it?s dead completely dead and I have to jump it almost every time,If you don?t use any power when the trucks not running like any power I can sometimes go back out there and start it back up.but I had the alternator checked in it?s fine I had the battery tested it?s fine so what could it be?could this tie into the short it?s having.how does it draining the battery somehow or please any answers would be helpful thank you so much

If it were me, I would first and foremost learn where all of the grounds are and begin by verifying all of those are clean and secure.

There are many threads in this forum that discuss the grounds and the problems that poor grounds can cause.

It looks like you are from Tucson, AZ, so I would not think rust of the grounds would be as big a problem as on a truck from a northern state.

But, still, a lot of strange electric problems can be traced back to bad grounds.

Oh, and  :welcome: Gcathy29

Check under hood and fuse box and elsewhere for where mice have chewed wires.

More than likely the light and dimmer switch. They are a major problem, especially if you upgrade to an aftermarket radio.

Yes there is a aftermarket stereo in it.the stereo was all ready installed when I bought the truck.I was just told about those dimmer switches are a problem in avalanches.

Good luck with it. Replacement ones are fairly cheap on eBay and Amazon. No point in buying OE since they are junk lol.

My dimmer switch has been working for 19 years now....
NO issues.... did not know they were a problem.

I am not exactly what qualifies OEM to be "junk".

OEM has always served me well and if I have to choose between OEM and aftermarket replacement parts, I usually choose OEM so I do not have to be faced with repeating a repair.

With almost a half million miles between my two current trucks, I do not see myself changing what has always worked for me.

Had 3 avalanches totaling over 500,000 miles and never had a dimmer switch problem. Not sure why you think they're junk.

Hi I am looking to check my grounds is there a link on where I can find my grounds on an 2012 avalanche?

I think this is from a 2008 ground location list, but it should get you started nicegy31. Links are dead.
