I think they finally fixed it. charge, abs brake, and sir lights would come on and then trans would stick in third gear. also a/c was intermittant, radio would turn off, and compass/temp wouldn't work properly. they replaced the ignition switch and reprogrammed the a/c control head. seems power is routed through the switch and that caused all the trouble.

YEs bad ignition switches have been the cause of many problems........

I have done some reading in here in regards to a faulty ignition switch maybe you can direct me in the right direction.

I am having no performance issues, nothing indicating transmission trouble or shifting trouble.

All of my digital read-outs are fine.

All of my needled gauges (tach, speedo, oil pressure, temp, battery) ARE PINNED. They do not move at all since yesterday.

I have checked all fuses and or fusible links and I have no after-market add-ons on my 2002 Chevy avalanche.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try pulling cluster out..... and checking rear connector...

then reseat into connector and try again....

2002 did not have the stepper motor problem with clusters....

butttttttt...
check this thread on how to trouble shoot Ignition switch:

Ignition Switch failure & how to Test & repair by kgt

Thanks, this is very weird...

I took off the trim, and removed the instrument panel. I disconnected the rear plug. When I re-connected the plug I heard a mechanical noise (buzz) for 1 - 2 seconds. I put it all back together and I am no longer showing ANY problems.

I am worried that I did not fix the long term problem, but all seems to be working now.

Is this normal?

Jay

Time will tell if you cured your problem

But I have heard that buzz many a time after replacing someone's cluster with a new one (done for appearance improvements).
