Never having had a 4 wheel drive before...is it supposed to make noise when my Z-71 is in 4x4 mode? Is that that drive on all four wheels making the noise?

Do you mean when you are turning?

You will hear a slight whine and also notice that it steers very hard at low speeds in 4x4.

Everything sounds very normal - unless you hear major clunks. :(

NewBlueO2, keep in mind you should never use 4-hi or 4-lo on a paved surface, especially a dry paved surface. Nor should you use 4-hi above 55 MPH as per owner's manual.

It is normal to experience the whine while in 4x4 modes. Especially noticeable is the front-end hopping around as you try to turn sharply into a parking spot. Both tires are turning at the same speed so the inner tire on your turn is turning at the same rate of seed as the outer and therefore starts to "hop" as it is pushing into the turn.

Driving in 4x4 mode on pavement is not a good thing . . wears tires and driveline. Now, the Auto mode is OK given that it engages only when slip is sensed. But turning on pavement in either 4Hi or 4Lo will seriously bind up the drive train. . . . DON'T DO IT!
