After a 400 mile trip, the "add coolant" light activated. The local mechanic blamed it on a tube that diverts coolant through cylinders. He thinks the gasket is bad. Has anybody heard of this?

I have yet to hear anyone state much about coolant loss....
you may be an isolated case

Mine did the same thing about a month ago. The light came on and then I could smell coolant burning. It puddled around the engine head gasket area. It was towed in. They said it was "just a tube that came loose".
Hopefully it was just an inconvenience and nothing else.

I had trouble early on... had to replace a water pump gasket...
54k now... added a qt about a thousand miles ago....
