Hey,
Was on vacation burning up days form work. Spent ALL mornin cleaning, waxing, detailing the Av- 6 am till 1 pm.
Only got 1600 miles so was not too dirty. So- I leave home to gas up- 3 folks at station come up separtley over 10 minutes. Comments all over.
I go to a truck shop called North Ridge Supply- The las at the counter is laughing at the truck- (rude, I am thinking as I walk in the store). She looks me over and simply states the I drive a truck with an identity crisis?(all I am thinking is I have CASH in my pocket to buy STUFF, and they are trashing me and truck)
I looked at her and asked what she drives, pointed to a Denali Yukon(whick I love to death and almost bought, but am glad now with my Av) and I commented her on the nice truck and then after she asked how she could help me- ( I was really pi$$ed Off at her ingnorance) I told her that I have a idiot complex, flashed my money and asked directions to her nearest competitor- walked out and won't go back after telling her my truck maybe ugly, but it has personality- No cookie cutter vehicles allowed,,,,

Off to luch. At the Taco Bell- comments from umteen folks as I got out to walk on in- same coming out- my food was getting cold at the length of time folks were asking the standard questions- I am gonna print busines cards and just give them to onlookers- Does this- this, that . Oh yeah it can fold here- Umm- sure it does that.... Building our wanna be fan's?

Later- just sharing my day today...

:B: :B: sands611,
Actually, youre lucky: you got to drive away from the harassment. Mine lives with me. My oldest son ( no, he's not adopted ) drives an 01 Tahoe all tricked out with bush beaters, roof rack with room for 2 dozen or so snowboards, DVD player and screen that zips into the dash, etc. makes up comments like "Why do you drive a Crapolanche? ", and " "Your truck is as bald as you are ( no roof rack )"....And this is the kid who steals my Zaino and thinks I don't know ).......However, unlike your situation, I have a secret weapon: RENT!!!! :7: :7: :7: HA!HA!HA!HA!

There is something about the Yukon/Tahoe bunch with their wannabe almost big trucks.........and they think We have problems? However, his younger brother is very smart: bought me a GM bug deflector for my birthday and installed it without my knowing about it. He's still in the will..........

Let the others talk - we'll just pick them out of our tire treads and smile

My first thought was raising the rent, but by the time I finished reading I started thinking that I would be threatening eviction!

I quote my dad here...

"I can take you out of this world just as fast I put you into this world so watch it buddy............" >:D

Nice story!

I had a kid-clerk at autozone about a week ago do the same thing. He wasn't even helping me, and yells across several counter-stations, "That's the ugliest truck I've ever seen." Not expecting anything but compliments on my truck, I was shocked! I replied, "Your the ugliest kid I've ever seen." Then his boss starts walking over, and the kid says "No, I mean, I'm just saying, it's my opinion."
"Okay," I say, "when I want your opinion, I'll unscrew your head and dip it out (one of my dad's favorite sayings)."

I couldn't believe it, neither could the boss. I shook my head and left.

I get lots of mean comments from the son's friends. Usually how I spend to much time on it or how I am infatuated with it ;D or the newest one is about me off-roading in it and why I didn't just buy a jeep. Oh yea... something about me buying a plastic truck.

My usual responses is.... When you guys actually know know what you are talking about then come back and have a conversation with me..... until then keep your ignorant comments to yourself. >:D

That will usually shut them up every time.

Got to give kudos to one of them though, he actually did some reading so he could bash the truck a little bit more. But every stab at my truck usually got him a reply that he couldn't asnwer >:D

Now of course most of these kids have no car, and the ones that do paid over $3000 for a V6 camaro that is going to require another $3000 to get it operable..... Kids these days.....

Yea . . the Av will get you comments. ?In my circle of friends and acquaintences, the Av has been greeted either very positively or with silence . . . which I've taken to mean "that's one ugly truck" ?But then at least a couple of the nay-sayers drive Ferds ?:D: what can you say.

Then there are my two eco-weenie liberal neighbors who drive Subarus or Volvos . . . no comments but you can see the disdain on their faces! ?It's great . . . I love my Av!

Well, let me tell you....
I was the kid who wore his shirt buttoned up to the collar, when the fashion was open to the navel. My hair was short when my buddies had hair over their shoulders. I wore wool pants when everyone wore blue jeans with ball pen flowers on them. Later I grew my hair to my shoulders when everyone else was cutting it short. I started wearing climbing clothes to work when ties were the rule. And now I drive an Avalanche.
Sometimes it's nice to NOT be like all the others.

I agree with you guys, except I have noticed that lately, a sudden surge in the number of people who love the looks of the avalanche. I've gotten many compliments on mine in the last couple of days, many stating "Ya know, one they first came out, i thought they were ugly, but now... I am really wanting one." LOL, it'll teach those people. Myself, along with many others of you were amazed from the beginning. Much luck with the comments guys.

I have to stop at a guard post on my way in to work every night. The guards always have nice comments on the truck. I always have the midgate down so they can look from the passengers window straight into the rear. I get all kinds of nice comments on the truck.
I have had a few gotta get used to it comments though.

If your feeling vindictive you might empty your Zaino into another bottle and fill the Zaino with a little olive oil and piant remover.A 1 to 9 ratio should do it. >:D

Now that would be evil!I say double his rent!!!More mod money! :)

Yeah, when I first saw the Av, I said "that's one butt-ugly truck". Now I own one, love it, and like the looks of it. But for those nay-sayers out there, I'm thinking of getting a vanity plate that reads "BUT UGLY", and in my state, the word "truck" is on the bottom of the plate. So my plate will read "BUT UGLY TRUCK".
I just hope they don't confuse what I me with the truck, (as in but ugly)

yeah, i get a lot of those "they're starting to grow on me" comments too. let me tell ya i loved the truck from the first moment i saw it in an issue of Stuff or Maxim (can't remember), both of which are mighty fine publications >:D. once i saw it i knew i had to get one.

I was at a Dunkin' Donuts one day just getting back into the Av when a kid in a Dodge Dakota pulls up next to me. He got out and came over to take a look at the truck. I was doing that thing where you get ready to be helpful and answer all the questions and demand the buck up front. The kid looks over at me and says, "I don't like it; way too much plastic," then he walks off.

The kicker is the kid's Dakota had everything Lund makes installed: cowl, bug deflector, ground effects, that thing (fairing?) that sits on the rails behind the cab... It was a rolling display for Lund.

Sound more like 'sour grapes' to me. He probably just said that because what he spend on his truck and aftermarket stuff added up to a nice AV.

I have noticed that it gets people to talk. If there is a couple of people on the side of the road; one will, more often than not, point out the AV, and start talking.

I was talking to Jim on the golf course the other day about thinking of getting an Av. He likes the Avalanches too. Terry, who doesn't know I have one ordered, overhears us and says, "I WOULDN'T BE CAUGHT DEAD IN ONE OF THOSE UGLY F_____IN' THINGS". Well, I'm triing to surprise Jim when it ever gets here so I just smiled.
Wait till its my turn to drive to the course in the Av! >:D

Also, I knew the look would grow on people. Remember when the T-birds came out in the early 80's or the Dodge trucks in the early 90's. We are starting to prefer the plastic too.

When my friends son who is 16 found out I was going to buy an Avalanche he called me tell me exactly what accessories to get with the truck. He loves the Avalanche.

My wife was explaining it to friend before I bought it as the ugly truck. Now that I have had it for a week and she has driven it, she loves it. She says it drives like a car.

Maybe I should not let her drive after that first comment :).

When I first saw them, I too thought they were BUTT UGLY, almost as bad as the Aztec :D:

Then, a friend of mine had the backgound of his computer set up with a modded one. It had the Chrome blackend in with a black billit grill. I saw it and said wow, that looks awsome. About 3 months later I started shopping for one. My wife asked me "what do you want one of THOSE, There UGLY"

I dragged her down to another dealership that had a used 2002 someone traded in for a Caddy EXT. we took it for a test drive and she LOVED it.

The drive got her. So, I started specking out what I wanted and checked on GMBUYPOWER.COM and found one I liked (actually I wanted a Z71 and ended up with a Z66 because of practicality with the wife issue) and went into the local dealer and told him I wanted this one. And would pay him this amount. He then tried to talkme into one of the Z71 Trucks on the lot he had (2002) and told me he would sell me that at his invoice cost. (about 1000 less than the Z66 AV) I took it home and tried it out over night and the wife said "I like the AV much better"

;D

I got my AV.

Oh, the Dealer said "Why would you want one of those things"

He still give me a hard time about it too.

I still get a few "too much plastic" comments but not many anymore. Seems to be a lot more converts out there.

Sometimes it's not easy being a visionary and a little different; hence my name - MAVERICK!!!

It's ironic that the neighbor that was complaining about "too much plastic" on my ugly truck is now complaining about all the door dings in their minivan.

I just laugh and move on. Oh, and it just happens I'm usually not available when they want to haul stuff. >:D
