Anyone know of any easy way to generate an error code so I can use my code scanner to make sure it works??? I got a scanner, just wanna make sure it's working properly...this will also make sure that my AV is generating the propber codes also...thanks.

Yea, I got one that has happened to me a couple times: leave the gas cap off.

It happens because of the tether that holds the cap cap is a pain in the ass to use, and here in NJ I can't pump my own gas, so it's frequently not tightened properly.

How about getting stuck in a pond? ;D I read your little adventure a couple of weeks ago...pretty cool story.

Hah! Actually, that whole adventure didn't cause any "Check Engine Soon" lights!

And, the anniversary is Sunday the 13th - I've got it marked on my calendar. ;-)

I think I would have started to cry after being stuck for an hour with the engine running and water inside the cab

You can also unplug the mass-airflow sensor (gray plug by the air filter), and you can unplug one of the fuel injectors. You can unplug one of the spark plug wires, but this will dump raw gas to the cat, so this isn't a good idea.

Luckily it did throw an error code ;D
Just because you don't find any codes doesn't nessesarly your AV is running. Now the code should juse clear it self after several cycles. I did leave the gas cap off and drove about 5 miles and no SES light or code...
AJ...how long do you think I need to leave the gas cap off before a code is generated...
Now that I got this scanner it's kinda fun to perposely generate codes..now I wanna break my AV!!! ;D

Yea, I forgot to mention that part... I meant to

It's not consistant - sometimes it would come on in a couple of minutes, sometimes it would come on after three days. Not sure why there is a discrepancy. I do know that the fuel system is pressurized and 'occasionally' checked - I guess that's why there's a discrepancy....

Oh, and the first time it happened, I hit the OnStar button - just to play a little. They can do remote diagnostics, but the error message they came up with was so cryptic...
