hello ava'ers....

quick background; we ordered a 03 AVA back on 22 Aug of 2002, without ever seeing any AVA's. We've been living in Amsterdam the past 2 years as i'm on an a int'l work assignment out here.
we're returning to the silicon valley at the end of this month in northern california. in any case, we decided on an AVA, but had never seen any out here in Europe. Up until this past weekend that is.

We were taking a visiting friend through the centrum of Amsterdam, walking down Damrak leading to centraal station. when lo and behold, i spotted a black AVA passing us by. My wife and i were excited because we had NEVER seen one, anywhere. We tried to run up to it, but the lights turned green before we could catch it and the AVa turned left onto prinsehendrikade.

Later, we are talking our friend on a canal cruise through Amsterdam, and there again is the AVA parked alongside the canal [either Herengracht or Prinsengracht]. It had the Z71 decals, so i immediately recognized it as a 1500 1/2 ton with 4x4. I couldn't tell the year though.

We went later in the evening on foot trying to find it again, but couldn't.

Ah but in any case, we were totally excited about our first AVA sighting, in Amsterdam nonetheless. It completely calmed any nervousness we had about ordering the AVA without ever seeing it.

I know from other postings that only about 2.5% of AVA owners are on this list here, so I don't expect the owner to catch this.

Just wanted to share this with you all. Wagons however are more popular in the Netherlands as the cities are small, dense, roads are narrow, and it just isn't meant for large vehicles like an AVA.

tot ziens....

tyguy,

Looking forward to having you in the bay area with us :D

Gutsy move . . . to purchase sight unseen! But then you'll get no arguments on this board regarding your choice . . . ya done good . . . you'll love your Av!

Guess there aren't too many in Europe . . given gas prices and roads not designed for 'monster trucks'. Welcome back to the states soon!

If we get 'changed' at every Home Depot stop, I can't imagine the number of times it would happen if you were one of the only in the country to have one. Man, sounds like that would be fun over there.
