Now you need to clean your engine to match the new Intake.  :kidding:

jk, but it's true yes i need too i know. had this thing on for a few days now and omg i love the sound this thing has! ! i can't keep my foot off the pedal now  >:D

I was looking at a club pic of someone with a K&N setup. i really like the air damn on it better than the Spectre. Do you think it would be possible to buy just that part from K&N and have it fit?

I am going to have my little brother, when he comes out, who is a tinner by trade. Build me a new box for my Spectra so that it is all closed in. I am also thinking of running a cooling tube from the front of the bumper by the tow hook up into the CAI box. Attach a catch scoop at the bottom and it should force a good amount of air up a 6-8 inch pipe. The air would be completely isolated from the engine heat.

Does anybody know if the MAF can be moved to up closer the the throttle body? I wanted to try and put it where the Spectra connects to the throttle body, but I am unsure if it is to close. I know the GTO and the Vet have the MAf connected that close. Having electric fans gives me 13 inches of room to work with for different intake ideas I have.

Another idea I am kicking around is running dual CAi's into my Throttle body. I would have to have the intake tubes built, but I think it would look awesome.

I have a K&N with an air dam.  It is a separate piece so you may be able to buy it.  Fabbing something up like Shane and his bro is probably a better option.

Only problem thing is, i have a soft rubber edge on my air dam that touches the hood insulation.  After a while of the air dam rubber edge 'touching' the hood insulation there is a nice little frayed area.

I replaced the standard Spectra air filter with one of their other model 888038. It fits in the air box a lot better. It also attaches right to the MAF. It is cylinder shaped insted of the cone shaped. The CFM is rated at 1100. I know I like the way it sounds and feels a lot better. And the fit is great. You do not have to take off the whole unit to clean your filter. I will post pics soon.

What is the CFM of the filter in the kit?

Woot Woot!  I just got mine from Summit Racing the other day.  I installed it tonight.  Started the engine...no difference detected. Drove it around the block and gunned the throttle...awesome sound!  We'll see about any noticeable HP or mileage increase tomorrow.

got a question, just curious if anyone has "wrapped" the aluminum tube for heat shield purposes... and if so with what wrap or material...and did you notice any power gains or temp differences.

I did a temp test in the the 100+ temps of the summer and there was a 37-55 degree difference between the engine temp the the maf temp. I am going to try the wrap this summer and see the results .

Anyone know where to find this thing for $99 still? The cheapest ive found is $162 on ebay shipped...

any suggestions for a nice wrap?

The best deal I found was a 2" wide x 180" long DEI kit with the black HT silicone coating for $45.43. White is also available.

Black Wrap Kit Link

Should be just about long enough with a 1/4" overlap according to their chart.

I came across my old thread when I installed the K&N FIPK on my 02.  Man I miss that ride.  Looking at adding it on my 08 now.

Just installed on my 04 and I like it will put it on highway this week to see mileage. First mod to my truck

OaklandCowboy your MPG?s are going to go way down.

:welcome:

:drive:  >:D

i just put the sepctre 1 weeks ago after replacing all valve and seat and wouh wouh the new chevy sound, great stuff :drive:
Love it

i don't understand why some people pay K&N more $ for same results, finally is just a stainless steel tube

Giys I have a perfect solution to wrapping the intake tube. I used a mylar faced bubble insulation to insulate the roof in my shop. It is 3/16's thick bubble sheeting with reflective mylar on both sides. And the aluminum reflective tape you seal the seems with looks great. Furtunately, I have a bunch left over. Can't find a way to put a pic on of yhe insulation

How is it issued from the store and which store? Sounds like a great sound proofing material for the doors.

Refletix or Insultek are the brand names around here. It is a radiant heat barrier. Homedepot carries it. I have been using it under hood , under headliner and under carpet for years.

Attached with the large diameter insulation fasteners from  Au-ve-co :)

What is covering your filter it looks like plastic?  I Use foam as a pre- filter. I Like the material you used for enclosing the filter. I Am going to take your ID one step further and build a lid for the box. I Am using air filter material to cover the bottom and keep stuff from coming in that way. I Feel putting a good lid on will help keep temps down and water and debris out.
I Will post pics when I am done.
Thanks for the research. I Was going to use steel.

I stitched up some nylon pre-filters. Keeps the big stuff off. Really extends service intervals :)

The insulation seals mine to the hood. The hood is the lid for the box ;) No need to add a lid under the hood.

I Have had my Spectra for 11 years. I have driven thru every kind of weather possible. I Even had so much snow crammed in around the radiator that my horn stopped working. But my Spectra performed flawlessly. I Use to have a throttle body spacer installed.  But when I went back to the stock fan setup the spacer no longer fit. To tell the truth I did not even noticed it was gone. It was a big waste of money. I Installed it in 2004 when I installed electric fans. The Fans worked great until the control module went out. Then anytime I had to climb a grade my engine temp would rise to 240 plus. I installed a huge dual core radiator which did not help. New thermostat, fluid everything. Then I installed the stock fan and now my temp never gets over 195.
Lesson learned.
