Everything about Spectre Cold Air Intake

Ron, go back a loosen everything up. then adjust the main tube until it lines up with the rubber mounting piece on the side of the box. Make sure the filter is off for this part, only have the tube hooked to the throttle body. Only snug it down. Then attach the filter to the MAF and then to the tube. Keep the clamps loose so you can adjust them better. Don't forget to hook the radiator hose piece in. Now adjust everything until it is fitting good. Then tighten everything up. Take is out for a drive to get everything nice and warm. Then see if you need any more adjustments.

Now to remove the filter. You disconnect it from the MAF. As you notice you have an inner mount then the mount that does on the filter. These give you all the room you will need to remove the filter. And you get to remove the MAF so you can clean it at the same time.

If you scroll up a little you can see a picture of how my filter and MAF are sitting. If you want more pictures, let me know. I am going to be taking mine apart for cleaning annyways.

I hope this was helpful.

Shane

Thanks Shane

What are you guys using to oil yours with?  I guess I didn't know you had to use oil?? I have some kand n spray, would that work?

Actually the Spectra are not an oiled filtered. You clean them with soap and water and make sure they are completely drybefore reinstalling it. I am purchasing a spare K&N to use while the other one is drying. This is what I have always done with every filer I have had. It may be a little pricey but it saves a lot of time.

I thought the spectre was an OILED filter.  Why would my box include an filled oil spray bottle and a cleaner bottle?

I sprayed my filter before I installed it.  If possable I would rather have the dry filter.

RON

Mine did not come with any of that. maybe different models are different or the newer ones are oiled. I prefer the dry also, it is a lot less work. I have cleaned mine once already and it was not oiled.

Mine didn't come with oil or bottle so I assumed it wasn't supose to be oiled....just checking to make sure.

Just installed the Spectre C.A.I. and  all I can say is HOLY S#*T!!!!!!  Amazing sound and impressive gains in power especially going up hills.  In the process of installing my WAAG brushguard so I'll post some before and after pics later when I am done.

Now it is time to "mod" the exhaust.  right now I have the MagnaFlow Y-pipe with dual converters tied into the stock exhaust.  Now that I have got more air coming in...... it's time to work on the exhaust going out!  I thought about doing away with the stock muffler and running 2.25" or 2.5" pipes straight back.  I know the 5.3 needs a little back pressure, but hopefully I can accomplish this by going to a smaller pipe.  Who knows, but I do know that it is going to sound awesome!!!!!

hey i did read the long th this and how much do you need to modread and noticed some1 attempted to put the spectra cai kit that was meant for 06 and below on the new 07 5.3 liter avy. Who else has done this and how much modding needs to be done? are all the spectra pieces fit perfectly into the 2007 and up engine?

please provide details for installation

An Update:  I questioned earlier in this thread whether or not a kit would fit an '08 since they do not sell one yet with that label.

You Can.

I put mine on yesterday without any issues, and after a bit of fumbling around for the correct fitting, had everything installed and tightened down in less than an hour.

Mine did not come with any oiler or cleaner bottles, and I'm not sure whether or not the Spectre is an oiled filter.  My plan is to run this filter for awhile and replace it down the road with a K&N.

The sound change is subtle for now, we'll see how it reacts after my Custom Tune later this spring.

I posted this in the longer Spectre thread, but yes it can be done and without any modifications.

I just installed mine yesterday on an '08 5.3 Flex.  The only irregularity is that the new "box" can only attach with two bolts, as opposed to the four that attach the stock airbox.  This does not effect the function in any form or fashion.

Good luck!

i just ordered mine from autoanything.com for $123.95 shipped...it was fo rthe 2003-2006 5.3, was this what you bought part number was like 9088??? can you post pics????

i hear people talking about a sound differance???????????????? does any1 have this set up with an exhaust system??? will i hear a sound differance if i already have a magnaflow set up???

The sound with dual exhaust and an FM40 is just awesome. It is nice and quiet on the interstate, but when you throttle up it sounds loud and beefy.

That's the ebay link to the item i purchased.  It's MFG part # 9900.

I can't locate a part number 9088, but I'm assuming you purchased one identical to mine.  I don't think the GM 5.3 engines have changed drastically in the last few years, and all engine bays from Silverado's to Suburban's should fit this Intake.

To answer your PM: I elected to not drill a hole in my new intake for the hose in question.  I pulled it out and it's currently venting into my engine bay for now.  I'll be putting a small filter on the end of it soon and zip tie'ing it out of sight.  Whichever you choose to do, Do NOT cap it off... it needs to vent.

No pictures at this time.  I'll try to grab some today and post back later.

edit: fixed long link thingy by I CHNGE

Here is my install after completion, as well as a few pictures demonstrating the addition of a breather filter for the PVC/crank case vent.  I elected to go this route vs. drilling a hole and installing the hose in the CAI.

This is on an '08 5.3 flex.

Hope this clears up some questions.

Thats exactly what I did with mine. Now, a word of caution: the vapors from the crankcase WILL make that breather filter very dirty in time, and it WILL leave a fine residue of Oil around the filter. Check it once in a while, or youll be unhappy when in 2 years youve got a dirt/oil cake a quarter inch thick around it.

I cant figure out why GM would want to put the crank vapors into the intake tube in front of the butterfly valve...just makes a mess of everything. Mine is an 05, and it dumps into the Throttle body just behind the valve. Which just gums stuf up inside, but keeps the valve clean and free of build up.

I'll keep that in mind and give it a check after a few months.  If it turns out the breather filter gets too gunked up too quickly, I'll opt for a breather oil catch can instead.

pulled the trigger and installled the Spectra on my 08....didnt disconnect the negative terminal and when i was done i got the dreaded check engine light!  sooooo, i went home disconnect negative for about 30min and no light so far,,,,,,thanks to all who helped me...love it! next is the 2" front leveling kit tomarrow!

Bad news for me guys....hey tried to disconnect the negative and let stand for about 30 minutes...after about a day my check engine light came back on for about half a day and then it went off again.....did i do install worng????? any help?????

Go to Autozone and have them pull the code for you. That will tell you what it is. It could be a whole lot of things.Remember you are introdicing a hell of a lot more colder air into your engine. Some of the sensors might not have liked it and took a while to get calibrated.
