i find that interesting. if the mechanic can't find it... ???

It is possible the general did a mid year change and this is why some have it and some don't.

Heres the photo of the front drive shaft. The Zirk is on the upper left side.

Xrover thanks for the photo - I just went under with the AV in N and turned my shaft all the way around and checked it with a trouble light and I have no zerks.

I am wondering if there is a difference in mfg of the shafts - your is balanced with washer and mine has a long stip of metal. I can go grab a shot of my U joint if it would help anyone.

Xrover - were any changes done to your drive shaft when you got a lift?

My u Joints front to rear diff all appear to be sealed.

that's funny. i did not see that anywhere i looked on the Z71 that was at the dealer. i swear i looked it over real good. i will check again. even if i do not find it i at least know that some do have it. thanx for the pic XRover.

My front drive shaft was not changed when the lift was done. As far as I know it is still the original one

okay guys... went to the dealer again today. crawled under an '03 Z-71 to check out the front driveshaft. the driveshaft had no zerks. also it had the rectangle strips of metal for balance, and not the round shaped ones.
so if your driveshaft has the zerk XRover there maybe a possibility that GM uses more than one manufacturer for this part.
now that i have taken a closer look at your front driveshaft XRover it appears to be different from the one i just looked at. for one the balancing weights are different. and two, your shaft appears to be black in color. the one on the Z-71 i just looked at was aluminum. it looked liked the one in the rear as far as finish is concerned.

"the one on the Z-71 i just looked at was aluminum" Man I need those shafts - less weight so more HP to the RW :)

I went to Pep Boys today and the only lube they had with the NLGI cert on it was Citgo Premium. This only had the LB cert. It did not have the GC cert on it.

I crawled under my sis's 02 Z71 this weekend - she had the long metal strip for a balance and no Zerk

so what's going on? ??? so far the only truck that has this zerk is XRover's. i am wondering if XRover had his front driveshaft swapped during his lift. it does not look like the one i saw. could it be an aftermarket? well, i guess we should just tell others who want to do there own lube job to check very carefully for the twelve zerk. the one's that have a 4x4 anyway.

XROVER is one of the orignal AVY......his is old and has a born on date from the beginning...I bet GM changed the drive shafts to cheaper versions w/o the zerk....

maybe xrover can confirm his chassis build date....

Sorry all who have been waiting for my finds.

I spoke with Pro Comp today and guess what they replaced when installing the Lift?

So I guess you can all scratch the additional Zirk fitting off the list. Why exactly they replaced the shaft I am not sure but I am sure it has to do with the new suspension.

XROVER:

Thanks for checking into this for us.

what kind of grease guns are you guys using.. i see there are different styles?

anyone have pics of there grease gun

i use a simple gun with the flexible hose. the other types that use the stiff extension will not allow you get at the hard to reach zerks.

I just greased all of my zerks today. It was indicated earlier in this thread that the pictures for all of the fitting locations were lost. I found a really good link @ GM-Trucks:

http://www.gm-trucks.com/IAR_zerks.shtml

Hope this helps everyone!
