EVERYTHING Extend camping towing Mirror

Sorry to say but I have the 2002 with the camper style mirrors. They are manual. I like the manual better, less things to go wrong. I hope they get the bugs out before 2005 when its time for me to trade.

On a serious note. I do not know if this will work or not, but try using something like Silicone on the moving parts?

Only trying to help

Thanks, But I'm not sure at this early stage if I want to be opening the buggers up. I'm going to let the dealer have their chance first... ;)

I'm towing a 26 footer, bought two extended mirrors (right and left). They slip over the existing stock mirrors. I like them because they cover the mirrors, less bug cleanup on the Avy. Sorry don't know the brand name but you can find them in the RV stores and or catalogs

The left mirror serves a better purpose than the right. If I had it to do over might not buy the right mirror.

By the way, we're pulling a 6800# trailer. It's the limit that the 5.3 with should be asked to handle. The 4.11 rear may be a better combo. In some locations getting 5 MPG. :C: Flat and level does great, 10 plus MPG.

Well so sorry to hear all of the bad results with the OEM mirrors...
I installed the '03 pwr mirrors on my '02 and they work great. I know of some mirrors getting out to the field with low/torque motors. That would cause the sticking problem...Have the dealer replace under warranty.
For my '03 truck I am going to install the pwr mirrors also, GM p/n 15182964/5. The only mod needed is to have a dealer reprogram the door module for the DPF option and your mirror switch will control the new mirror without any additional wiring. A lot easier than my '02!!!

Ciao for now

Well, Had it in to the dealer and they are going to replace the right side mirror (only) even though I said that both have problems, They had to order it so I figure by the time I have to go back the left should be stuck again so they can try again... :cautious:
I'm not real impressed so far they also did a "free" car wash and the job they did was not worth the money, still had mud on the running boards, bumper, and lower cladding. When I complained they re-washed the dirty parts and gave me a voucher for a free oil change. Wonder if the oil change will be as good as the free wash job?
I will keep everyone updated...

Well they replaced the right side mirror and ordered the replacement left mirror now because it was stuck again.
:p

Penguin,

I'd like to know more about replacing my 02 stock mirrors with the 03 that you described. Can you give me more details? :)

Thanks for your help.

Guys,

Any recommendation on towing mirrors (temporary)? I've seen the CIPA on the catalogs which look ok but I don't know if they'll ruin my paint...

Help!

I use the CIPA, they have some felt protective backing on the pressure bar that clamps them on. you could supplement this easily. They also fit tightly at the rim of the mirror but that area is not painted (plastic). I have not noticed any paint damage and have used them 12 times but I'm not particularly anal about that. I did try another miror that has straps and little rubber suction cup feet that attach to the painted area on the mirror (can't remember name) and used them only once. They rubber feet are not securely attached to the mirror, they vibrate and if the feet come off real damage to the mirrors will occur. The CIPA mirrors are for the price my best solution found to date although if I win the lottery, I'll buy Powervision ($500).

cipa's work ok. No marks so far. Mine came with a loose piece of protective plastic to put where the clamping screw contacts the mirror back. I put a small hole in the end of the piece of plastic and one on end of the mirrors and put a small black tie strap through them so I wouldn't loose the piece when not on the vehicle. Seems to work out well. :B:

I got mine at AutoZone, I think they were like $43 and they fit well, are made for our mirrors adn have done no damage.

Z66 Butch: What is the brand name/model number of the mirrors you found at AutoZone?
Also which AZ did you found them at? Getting ready to head to Bristol in a few weeks, and need new mirrors.

Thx!

I put a set of Powervision power extendable mirrors on my Z71 1500 Av. They were fairly easy to install and are great for towing when extended

Grizzly,

I have used the McNeil Mirrors and they work very well. Well made, easy on and off. They are large enough and extend far enough to actually let you see whats behind. They may not be the coolest looking mirrors, but if you really want to see behind you they are probably the best. I believe they are made in Michigan and may be sold only through the manufacturer. Go to GOOGLE and search for McNeil or McNeil mirrors and you should be able to find their site.

ErVikingo,

Check the last post. I mistakenly addressed to Grizzly instead of you.

ErVikingo,

Let's start all over again. The name of the mirrors is McKesh, not McNeil. Go to the Hensley Hitch website. You can see the complete info there and order through them if desired. Sorry for the incorrect info.

I agree with the McKesh Mirror recommendation. They are the best as far as functionality is concerend. They are not the prettiest, but they are temporary. So, they come off when you are towing. In fact, since they come off so easily, I remove them if I am simply parking somewhere, to prevent theft. Thye go on pretty quick too.

Be sure to give your doors a couple of good coats of wax frequently, to minimize any scartches due to the mirrors.

I use the $45.00 CIPA they fit well and as mentioned they have a felt backing that goes against the mirror.

I take an addtitional precaution when I mount them. I wax the mirrors and then I put a strip of duct tape on them before mounting the CIPAs. You don't see the tape with them mounted and it comes right off when your done towing.

I went to Autozone and they let me try the ones they carry.
Aye carumba. Those are disgusting on an AV. I purchased
the ones that Phantom linked earlier. I am towing a 30ft. travel trailer with TNF. No problemo.

I have a 2003 2500 with power camper mirrors. The right one is intermittent. Dealer could not duplicate. It happened again today, I drove right to the dealer at 4:30. They are ordering a new mirror.

I just use the cheezy looking :3: clamp on mirrors when I tow my 28' travel trailer. They work great and only cost me about $20 for the set.

I am not one to say bad things about a product but here goes. I word to the wise about the Powervision mirrors, I got a set for my old 92 K1500 Blazer. They were a pain to install and were not wired correctly even though they were the supposedly the correct ones for my vehicle. I called the company and they were very helpful and even offered to send me a wiring "adapter" so that it would work correctly. I told them not to bother since I already had both of my doors taken completely apart and did not want to go through that ordeal again. I got out the meter and figured out what I need to swap around, which was all of the wires. These things are also huge and heavy, so much so that they included a reinforcement for the window post. They do fold back, but are very hard to fold, so much so that I was not confident enough that they would do this on their own when 4x4ing that I would just fold them back on my own before I set out to 4x4. Even with their additional reinforcement the mirrors vibrated some at speeds above 50mph. They might have improved the design some since this was 3 yrs ago.
