EVERYTHING plug Converter 7 pin to 4

No offense but I disagree. If you're gonna spend money on hitch stuff spend it on the best stuff and you won't find it at the U-Haul dealer. Your truck can tow a lot more than the factory hitch is good for (safely anyway - it's a round tube assembly - it's not as strong as a square tube). Find a reputable hitch place near you. And try not to go to a U-Haul dealer.
No offense taken but from my experience of 10 years dealing with them on a highly regular basis...
Drawtite hitches are a very good quality.
They bolt on very easily,
are well designed square tube hitches that
are rated within their correct weight loads and
they have a great selection of lighting adaptors and accessories...

Because of the amount of volume they do... (the largest hitch installer worldwide) their prices are hard to beat.

They are also readily available.

I however would not go to a dealer... unless you know them to be reputable. I would go to a center. That will carry a better warranty.

Saw this the other day while shopping for something else. It's a 7-round to 4-flat converter with a nice coiled cord that stretches up to 3'. I have one on order, but it won't ship until the 23rd. I'll let you know how well it works.

David,
Did you inquire if the 7 way has round pins or flat pins? And, please do let us know how it works out for you!

Tim

Well... the 7-Round to 4-Flat coiled connector came today from Sportsmansguide.com. The 7-round part is indeed the bladed type that we need... hooks up fine; however, the 4 flat really meant 4 + ground... so it was really a 5-flat. I ran down to my local Northern Tools to see if I could get an adaptor, and much to my surprise was the same cord but with a true 4-flat connector (same price as the other $25). So I went ahead and purchased the one at Northern and will ship the other back.

The actual cord itself is fairly short when coiled, but does stretch to about 3'. Plugs in fine and works great so far. FYI

Here's the link to the connector from Northern

I got the Draw tite 18384 at the local chevy dealer. costs way too much ($35) but is the right solution if you want to have a clean, invisible, easy LOF install or tow a 4 pin trailer and not have to worry about where the adapter is. The unit looks pretty stock right down to having the same cable wraps for the 4 pin as the truck harness. Mounts in line at the Back of the 7 pin connector and has a ~2ft pigtail 4 pin connection running off of it. Tuck the line behind the bumper and it is invisible and always accessable. It also allows you to tap the 12V wire inbetween the connector for a rear bed 12V outlet without cutting the truck's stock wires- although this shouldn't bother you if you were willing to cut a hole in the bed for the 12V socket!.

http://www.hitches-forless.com/electrical/t_connector_all.htm has it for $28 bucks, but I'm into instant gratification and didn't want to wait or pay shipping.

I have a new 2003 AV WBH, need to tow the boat. I have the factory trailering package, so have hitch mounted 7 prong connector.

Will any 7 to 4 connector work in the factory recepticle?

Thanks!

Yes. $9 at wal-mart or any local parts store. I keep one in the door pocket should I need to tow a 4 pin trailer.

Thanks! I have one from our Durango that we have used up until now.

What type of boat do you have? Looks good. We have
21' Sea Ray w/ 5.7, 260HP. Love it!

Again, thanks!

I have an inboard ski (mainly wakeboard) boat with a standard 5.7L chevy small block V-8. It does not go fast, but it sure has HP out of the hole! The wake is awesome, but ride is VERY bad as it's a super flat hull. (But at 34+ MPH there is only about a 2" fluffy wake) My family has had boats all my life, I just plain LOVE inboards - it's the sports car of boats - impractical, but man does it handle/drive/pull great!

I got my 04 Av in December. When I went through it a couple of days after I brought it home, I found no adapter for plug in the back. I have an older boat with the 4-pin wiring, so I am not familiar with the 7 pin. If your trailer is 7 pin, will it plug strait into that round rear socket with the plastic flip lid?
Anyway, I got on the phone with the dealership and explained there was nothing in the vehicle to fit in the socket. They overnighted a plug which has the 4 pin on it. It is a Delphi product that is about 3-4" long. One side fits snugly in the socket, the other is the 4 pin. If you have a factory hitch, they should give it to you with the truck - its part of the package. They also sent the big trailer wire harness which I probably will not need.

2002 got the adpter and electric braking harness....for cost cutting they well stop giving them with the trucks.....bummer for sure...

but Wal Mart, Pep Boys & Uhaul type places sell the adapters.....7 pin is pretty much a standard...and will have adapter to 4, 5 & 6 pin......

the harness is if you decide to add electric brake controller for electric trailer brakes.....but you need a maxi fuse for this under hood....

Good Luck

Actually, the fuse for the electric brakes comes installed from the factory. That maxi-fuse that comes with the electric trailer brake harness is for the unswitched B+ battery supply to the trailer plug.

In reality, it's backwards! Talk about confusing!

Don't know if this means anything or not, but my '04 (with the trailering option - part of the Z66 as I recall). I got the 7 pin to 4 pin adapter (not a cable but a hard plastic adapter) and trailer braking connector (plus fuse) with the truck. They were in the glove box (and are now in the passanger saddle bag with the jack handle, etc.).

I would just add that you need the 7 pin flat, versus the 7 pin round. Take a look inside of the trailer wire plug on the back of your AV, it has flat pins inside a round plug. This 7 pin flat connector is commonly called an RV plug-in. You might think I am crazy, but we use the 7pin round connectors at work, and they will not plug into the standard RV type plug in... we have to re-wire all of our new rigs to match our fleet of trailers. If you look at a semi up close, you will see the metal 7 pin round connectors. Cheers.

I cant seem to find the correct adapter to go for the 7 pin to the 4 flat. Can anyone help... this is a 2004

No,

This one is a blade adapter. I bought one today and it dossn't work. I need a pin adapter. The one on my truck is the female end. I need 7 pin (6 outside, 1 center) like a star. This is a 2004 avalanche

There is nothing year, model or manufacturer-specific about the adapter you're looking for.

They are commonly available at any trailer, camping, or U-Haul store.

in the Canadian 2003 brochure for the Av there is a part number listed to go from 7 pin to 4 pin. part number 12496599, this part number is probably different than what would be used in the USA i think. check with your dealership.

Find a friend with a Dodge or Ford and snag theirs.

It's the same from Chrysler Line, Ford, GM Line.

DanM100, your adapter below the truck is female?  Mine is male.
It has the pins sticking out from the plug, and the 7 - 4 is female.
