EVRYTHING 12v Power at Trailer plug maxi fuse fuses

I have a 2005 1500 Avy, and will be towing a trailer shortly.  I don't need a brake controller or 12v to the trailer as there is no battery to charge and the trailer is a rental with surge brakes.  In this case, are here any connections that have to be made under the hood, or the dash?  I checked for power at the trailer plug with the brake pedal depressed, but there was no current.  I checked the groun that the test light was hooked to, and it wa good as the test light lit up off the rear truck lights

There should not be anything to hookup but, there is a fuse for the trailer signal lights under the hood you should check. With the brake pedal pressed there should be power to the wires for the right turn light and left turn light on the trailer plug.

Got it going!  Turns out the problem was in the connetor at the plug.  Put the new plug in and it al works

Just wanted to say thanks for the info given here by various members - my 2005 Av wasn't supplying voltage on the charging line to the 7-pin connector, I realized I didn't look close enough at the Stud 1 "fuse" that was actually a filler plug ;-)  Bought a 40-amp maxi fuse, plugged it in and all is good.

The wires for +12v and the brake controller were already connected to the fuse box; thanks to info elsewhere in the forum it was a piece of cake to install a Primus IQ controller with the 3015 wiring harness.  Gotta love it when stuff works!

Okay I'm seeing some info on the later model trucks still needing to either hook up wires to fuse locations or pull out a filler plug and replace with a fuse...

I have a 2011 Av with the HD cooling and tow package (with brake controller).  Is there anything I need to be looking at hooking up of screwing with to have power at the trailer plug for charging and what have you?  I haven't checked, but if someone already knows and can tell me "yes, you're good to go from the factory" or "nope, you have to hook up a wire or a fuse", it would save me some time.  Thanks guys!

You have to hook up a wire under the hood for the 12V. The factory brake controller is hooked to one post at the front of the under hood fuse box and you have to hook the 12V trailer wire to the other. There are still 2 loose wires under the hood 1 for 12V to trailer plug and 1 for an aftermarket brake controller.

2009 Av.... The fix for the no 12v power at the 7 pin plug is at this link. http://www.silveradosierra.com/how-to-articles/how-to-hook-up-the-constant-12v-power-for-7pin-trailer-plug-t1712.html

Just finished hooking up the wiring on my great 2003 1500. The 30 amp mini fuse was in the stud 2 location. Hooked up to the trailer and all the lights worked.
Do you have a diagram of the 7 pin plug? I am needing to get power to my trailer battery that handles the tilt :help:
