Ok I know this is going to sound rediculous BUT here goes..

Has anyone with the Flowmaster Delta Flow Series of mufflers noticed an increase in tone at all levels after a few months?? Seems like it has gotten ALOT louder in my opinion. I don't see how this is possible considering there is no packing to burn off inside the case. Any thoughts or comments would be helpful.

Mine seems the same....but hard to remember as subtle changes are hard to notice in the long run.....

yes! just thinking same thing this week. Had mine for a couple of months maybe. However, it sounds BETTER to me, albeit a little louder. Seems deeper instead of vroooomy sounding.

Of course, I could be just imagining things :cautious:

plus you are self-admittedly deaf (I confirmed this with your dog)

hehehe true true true....and my dog is really deaf now....poor thing...she cannot hear the sound of food falling from my chin onto the floor.....hehehe

I like the sound I am getting I don't think me neighbors do though. >:D I just can not figure out why :E:

if a piece of food falls from ygmn's chin while in a forest, whether or not his deaf dog it there to hear it, does it make any noise?

:2:

Has weather changed much?

I mean maybe the sound changes with temperature drops or atmospheric pressure or???

I have heard the deltas were prone to having the little delta thingys break loose and well rattle loose and this could change noise?

I don't hear any rattles but it is NOTICEABLY louder. It has gotten colder around here but I don't think that would change the sound at all.

Maybe Muffman will answer and save the day.....

sing to mighty dog song hehehehe

There is nothing physically inside a Flowmaster that can change / alter the sound through time (baring a ?v? plate snapping off).

What you are hearing is the tone changing as the PCM reprograms itself following the change in backpressure, etc. We see this (hear) frequently when resetting the PCM after system installs as well. On most GM V-6?s for example, the tone actually smoothes out, but at a slightly higher decibel output.

Cheers

Thanks muffman just seems weird though considering the muffler is on now for about 4 months plus I did an intake and a Superchips Tune plus reset the PCM after it all and now the muffler got louder like yesterday or the day before.

maybe your SO bought better Qtips hehehehehe

Bonedog,

Are you sure all the noise is coming from the tailpipe?

Broken weld? A new rattle causing a resonant sound perhaps?

Different tip installed? Broken hanger? Tempeture changes to cooler, can sometimes cause a "crisper", slightly louder tone on exhausts.

That's about all I can come up with.

Thanks muffman. As far as hangers and welds I checked and noticed nuthing diffrent. Didn't change the tip it is still the stock tailpipe. As far as weather. We did have a blizzard here on Friday and Saturday and it was just around that time I started to notice the change in tone. Maybe the weather realy can change the tone.

come to think of it, when I noticed this it was 20 degrees cooler than usual here in sunny FL. Perhaps that's it :0: Anyways, I like it.

so the both of you are saying my theory of colder days makes it louder is true? and only after muffman says this also...?

hehehehehe.....killing me here....hehehehehe

Kinda reassuring...I thought I was just nutz....

Well...............(nevermind... not going there)

YGMN,

Maybe I should explain my answer a little better. It sounds louder to you. It isn't necessarily louder. Have you ever had a ragtop, and driven in the rain in the winter compared to the summer?

If you have, you will notice that it is louder (all noises from outside the vehicle) during the winter. I think the cold air affects items that would normally insulate you from the sounds, not that the sounds are actually louder.

yes I agree.....I think speed of sound is more in cold air since it is denser...or something from physics class....

but yes...when cold outside the silence is more silent and the noises more noisey...hehehe

Colder air is denser and will affect sound transmission. Is it enough of a difference to hear??

Go hunting at 10 below zero, you'll hear every squirrel fart, a gunshot a mile away sounds like it's right next to you. Hunt in the fog and you can hardly hear your own thoughts.

Cooler temps also densifies metals. I imagine this would conduct sound resonance more effeciently and could change the amplitude as well as the frequecy of the sound. If the muffler is running cooler it in theory it should sound different and then you have the frame, body etc. conducting sound as well. Take a piece of steel, heat it to red hot, let it air cool. Now drop it on a concrete floor. Kind of a dull not too loud tone. Now take the same piece of steel heat it to red hot and quench it in water and conduct the same test. Ouch my ears hurt. ;D It will ring loudly.
