Express Down On All Windows

G

GTA350

GUEST
I would like to have the express down on all 4 windows; does anyone know if changing out the 3 window switchs with the sameone as the driver window switch would achieve this.
Also be nice if we could have express up on all four windows.

Check and see if the control module from the Cadilac Catera will interchange. That is one of the few vehicles I know that has 4way express down and 4 way express up.

Isn't an express up feature a major liability issue for everyone involved? I always thought that's why it was not an available feature.

It can't be much of a liability due to BMW, Lexus, Mercades all have express up on the majority of there cars.

An express up feature would still have a pressure sensing kill switch built in...just like non-express upward moving windows... Keeps kids from getting their arm/head/leg/finger caught smashed by the window.

My wifes Toyota Sienna has the express up and down on the drivers side. It has a few things I wish my Av had. 6 CD changer being one

Has anyone had a good look at this? Can anyone tell me if the express down feature is in the individual drivers window switch or is it a sepaerate module? ???

Are the window controls on the drivers side four seperate switches or is it one switch panel? Could you splice an aftermarket express down module into the loom? Arggg, so many questions, so few brain cells, can anyone help me? (with the questions I mean) ;)

I've got a different but related complaint . . .

Say you want to take the drivers window halfway down. Either do it in short bursts or let it express down and then bring it back up.

I'll give Chrysler credit on this one. . . their minivan has a two detent switch, with the first detent being non express operation, and the second being an instant express down.

Now I want this feature applied to both down and up on all four windows. . . . can't hurt to ask!

Well here's my guess at this, but I have no way of confirming it at this time. I belive that the switch for the drivers window is different. If you listen when the window makes it all the way down in the auto down funciton, you can hear, what sounds to me at least, is a relay of some sort disengaging. Like I said, it's only a theory, as I have yet to pull the door apart to find out. You can also hear the button click if the window is all the way down and you push the down button again.

So does anyone have a book that list the part numbers for the switches?

Maybe we could give Autoworker a page, I've seen him post some excellent answers to other complex problems concerning those little flexibile things that carry electricity, oh yeah wiring looms. :)

Paging Autoworker, whadda ya tink?

For WRChism...
There is a third way. Once you engage the Auto Down function of the drivers window and the window gets to the desired position, momentarily depress the window switch in the down direction again. I.E. press and hold for a second to start the window, then press again to stop. It appears that all of the GMC and Chevy trucks have this same feature, at least the GMC I had and the AV that I have are the same.

I've been looking really hard into this, cos it effects me more than most I suppose. See when we convert your trucks from left hand drive to right hand drive (for Australian conditions) all that we generally do with the door controls (window, door lock etc) is extend the loom and move the existing switch module from the LH door to the RH door to suit our driving position. It all still works fine, but this now puts the express down button as the button closest to the driver and it now works the passenger window (make sense?). Generally we would have this feature disabled rather than only have it work on the passenger side window.

So in looking at some options and following a hint from Wiki, I looked at the features on other GM type vehicles.

It turns out (according to the web sites) that cadillac have several models that feature express down on all windows - the CTS, seville and deville. How handy it would be if the Escalade or Escalade EXT had this feature,'cos it would be a straight swap right?

Soooo, what I want to know is why (according to the respective web sites) the US Cadillac Ecsalade Ext doesn't have express down on other windows BUT the Canadian Cadillac Escalade EXT does!! ???

What's going on here then? It proves a bit hard for me to nick down to the local dealer and have a look, you know $1,800.00 dollars and a 20 hour flight later.

So I was really hoping that someone a bit closer to the action (like from Nth America somewhere) :D could confirm or refute the above information.

Cheers,

I looked into this very seriously a while back. I should have posted my findings.....

I did a few circuit modifications and it worked just fine.
These are the before pictures.
This first picture is just how it sits in the door panel, top left is driver door.

There's some logic there that can be shared, I just haven't taken the time to detail it.

I'll try to get the switch opened and document what I did over the weekend.

I hadn't even considered the express up. I'll think about that while I write down what I did for express down on all 4.

Just when I think we finally thought up a VERY cool and useful mod that no one had yet done, here comes jasgot!! Great job man!

I'd love further details about what modifications you did to the switches and board to get express down on all four. Throw them up here as soon as you've had a chance to remember and articulate all the details!

Chief, if he's willing to write it up, seems like a great CAFCNA magazine story....

Jasgot,

That would be great if we could get some more details about your successful surgery on the window switch. This mod would let me keep some of the factory options.

I wait on the edge of my seat,

Viper makes a window module (530T.. may be different # now), that allows for express up and down. The module gives you the ability to vent the windows (from a aftermarket alarm) as well as roll them up or down.
I would not recommend anyone tampering with the switches (adding diodes and resisitors etc...) as it can cause added heat and possibilty of fire. Gm vehicles have always been current hogs in regard to power windows . The 530t is a smart module as it senses voltage changes thus allowing the windows to stop when they reach the top. They also will stop in the event of a hand being caught in the window. Also as the vehicle gets older they module has adjustibilty for window motor age, meaning when the speed slows down the module will still close the window.
The module runs anywhere from $60 to $100, depending on the dealer.

I've always thought it would be great to have the windows tied in to OnStar. When it starts raining I could just pick up the phone and have them raise them.

Sounds like this is getting closer.

jasgot,

excellent work!!! please post updates as soon as you can. on thought comes in mind, though, this mod seems only for the drivers controls, can this also be perfomed on the individual controls on all 4 corners?

thanks again, and super job jasgot!!! (y)

DETAILS pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I am interested.....Express up would be cool too if there was a way for it to die if a something gets in between window and door like kiddy fingers....

I've had some preliminary advice from a dealer who thinks that the Canadian Escalade switch will straight swap and provide express down on all 4 windows. Should know within a few weeks. Will keep you informed.
