does anyone have any current or previous experience with extended warranties purchased online ex: warrantygold, warrantybynet, 1sourceautowarranty, or warrantydirect.
i want to purchase one for my 03' z66. any suggetions/recommendations?

ty03....got change here,

i'm about ready to go down the extended warranty trail

ive got 27,000, now and was at chevy dealer today, saw my salesman, and asked about exteneds.
he said, that gm, has a kind of ....credit card deal, that you put the warranty on, and put a small amount down, and then pay it off.

ive gotta do something, in a few months at most, and will be watchin to see what you come up with, to help me decide which way to go!!!

I just receved in the mail an offer to buy an Extended Warrantie from GM but i already do have one built into truck payments

While a lot of the threads compare one warranty type to another, let me say here that I would definitely recommend extended warranty. I didn't purchase it on my last GM vehicle and regretted it afterward. I had severe electrical problems with the vehicle and it does not take long for those sort of problems to create a hefty bill. I have not had many expensive repairs on my Avalanche yet but they do begin to add up. And if something major goes, you only need to use that extended warranty once or twice to pay for it. Just my two cents. :)

Considering how catastrophic the piston slapping issue might be in the 5.3 engine as it ages, it makes sense to get the extended warantee if you plan on keeping your truck.

I just purchased an extended warranty from WARRANTY GOLD. ?Checked them out with some repair shops that they've delt with and the BBB. They seem to be OK. I still have 60 days to review their plan after I get it. One thing you should make sure of " do they pay with a credit card or not" you want them to that way the repair shop get their money right away, if they have to wait they make you pay than you have to collect from the warranty company. Oh yea, Warranty Gold has a payment plan. Good Luck // Fozie ?

I own a repair shop. Make sure you know what you are buying!!!!!!! GM's extended is great the pay for OEM parts if thats what you chose, and are relatively easy to deal with. However many of these companys try to beat the repair shop up on the repair and are not easy to deal with. You need to be very careful about what is and what is not covered. EXAMPLE customer has trans seal at torque converter leaking, ?not covered but if trans blows up then it's covered. Allstate also is pretty good . Beware of the wording really study the contract and ask a lot of ?????? . good luck

Mine is a Ford warranty, bought the Av w/5K on it from the Lincoln dealer.
It takes over when the GM runs out. ?Story is I go to Chev for work until then, then take it to Ford and they will take it to Chev to get it fixed.
I don't remember the cost but it was pretty reasonable, I was surprised, probably based on the fact that I bought my last three vehicles from Lincoln and they know I have a penchant to trade frequently. ?Probably figure they won't put out a dime on it.
Ford has always treated me well on the extended warranty and even give me a refund for the unused portion when I sell/trade.
Maybe they all do, I don't know, my experence has been w/Ford.

Fozie-

I purchased a warrantygold "Diamond "Bumper to Bumper Plus" plan this past week. Went for 7 years/100K miles no deductible (for $100 more, I will *AT LEAST* be in for repairs twice in the next seven years, I am sure of it).

Total was $1520. The GM-offered plan was 5 years/75K with $50 deductible (I recall) for $1399.

I did a little research into these people as well, and they appear to be reputable. I suppose that time will tell.

I have purchased three extended warrantees from warrantygold. One for my 97 F-150 4 x 4, one for my 97 Suburban and one for my 02 Avalanche. Thank god I had it on the Suburban, it saved us dealry.

You can take you vehicle to any repair shop including GM. They pay the repais whop with a credit card so you generally have no out of pocket expenses except for the $50 deductible (a $0 deductible is available).

I took a chance the first time and have never had any questions regarding a claim.

I highly recommend warrantygold. No I do not work for them but am a satisfied customer.

I would never purchase a dealer warranty. Too much money for too little coverage.

A total of 11 replies but only 1 member actually revealed how much they paid for their ext warranty. ? ???

I purchased the GM Protection Plan 6/70 bumper to bumper with a $200 deductible for $1100 which was incorporated into the 0% for 60 mos financing.

Hopefully, I will never have to use it. But when I do, then it should pay for itself. Cars are generally rolling off the assmbly line with better quality today compared to decades ago.

But all it takes is that one autoworker in Mexico not paying attention or just having a bad day that one day, and one little gear** somewhere was just not tightened right, and your AV just happened to be the AV in question, ?and pop goes the weasel!

I just pulled my paperwork... 48/100,000 mile warranty GM Major Gaurd, $100 Deductible Cost - $1,335.00

As a rule, I do not buy extended warranties. These are huge profit makers for those that sell them. They figure the average repairs for a vehicle, add in the company's profit, and then add the seller's commission (often 100%) and you have your premium. If you have average repairs or less you lose, if you get a vehicle that has much more than average repairs, you win. (I'm not sure that is a game I want to win!) Personally, I feel that you need insurance for those things that you can't afford, a total loss, or major damage to your home for example. I feel that I can pay for repairs to a vehicle after the warranty expires. I wouldn't be happy, but it wouldn't break me either. That said, be very careful who you buy your warranty from. Many of these companies are here to collect your premium, and long gone when it is time to pay a claim. Some companies also exclude almost everything. The safest warranty (but probably also one of the more expensive) would be to buy one right from the manufacturer (GM for example), they usually provide fairly decent coverage and are anxious to treat you pretty fairly in hopes of selling you another vehicle eventually. They also have the advantage of being accepted at any GM dealer, anywhere in the country, which may not be true of some of the independant warranty companies.

Warranties are insurance. You may need it, you may not. I had a warranty on a dodge and the tranny did a melt down at 76000 miles. $3600. My cost: $50. In all cases ( I usually get the extended warranty) I have used part of each warranty on each vehicle. Half had repairs more than I paid. With a 4 wheel drive with tons of electronics, I would definitely get it. So far my Mercury with 78000 only had a $30 part fail. 22000 miles to go!

I just got off the phone with Warranty Gold and I bought a Diamond Plan Six Year - 100,000 mile Warranty that covers just about everything for 1428.00 with 0% down and no payments untill April and 0% financing for 12 months. Zero deductable at that. It covers all seals, gaskets, all electrical, and even the tires that came on it. I talked to Jayson Duff at ext.4743 at Warranty Gold , he was very nice and informative on the whole process. And by the way,,, if you buy one from them tell them my name and they will send me 50 bucks and then I will send the club half to help out. ?;D ? ? I have had alot of trucks over the years and I will always get and extended warranty with a 4-wheel drive , especially with all the electrical things on them now. Thats my 2 cents on this also...........Tell them Brian Burnap sent ya,,,,,,,,,,, ;)

Thanks for the good word, Brian. I just got off the phone with Jason at WG and got the Diamond 7/100/ $0 deductible plan for $1514. I obviously plan on keeping this truck for awhile. In addition to all that you described, there's roadside assistance included, towing, and rental reimbursement for when the Av's getting fixed. They also cover wear-n-tear items during the contract period. The coverage includes things like an alignment if a suspension component is replaced, plus fluids and filters where needed. I asked about coverage for aftermarket items like my alarm system. Since mine was properly and professionally installed, it's covered too.

Just a bit of information for you guys. I am the General Sales Manager for a car dealership out here in CA and I have a little light to shed. Dealerships and online warranty companies have HUGE profits built into their extended warranties. For example, I sell a 5 year 100k warranty with a $100 deductable for around $1595.00
My cost on that warranty is only $545.00!!!!!

Remember, you can negotiate ANY product you buy from a dealership, including warranties.

unlike the cars themselves, it is very difficult to find warranty costs online. I recommend going to the dealership and asking for a cost on the warranty, and then make a fair offer over that cost. If a dealership won't do that, find one that will.

Just called the dealer I purchased my 02 Avalance from. Quoted $2495.00 for 7 yr/ 100K extended warranty. no ded. Please send me contact info on a delaer with reasonable pricing.

I went with warranty gold 6 year 100k diamond package for 1311.00 and zero dud. Thats a savings over GM.The local shops that a called all stated that they have never had any problems with them also. Make sure if you go with warranty gold to mention avalance club to get the discount. I'm just waiting on my contract to come so I can review it. THe payment plan makes it nice also.

REMINDER ON WARRANTY GOLD. The odometer is the actual odometer reading. The time (5 yr for example) starts when you buy the policy, so a 5 YR 100000 will end 5 years from the day you bought it or whenever the odometer hits 100000, whichever is first. Therefore it is best to buy the extended warranty right before the bumper to bumper expires. They try to scare you into buying now cause "the price will go up." It is possible, but not likely and not by much either.

i had warranty gold top of the line coverage for a vehicle that sucked. warranty gold pays by credit card, does not cover diagnostic, and will even reimburse you for parts when you do your own work. i replaced a bad starter and they sent me a check jsut a few days after i mailed in the receipts. that was what sold me on the warranty gold guys. they are constantly sending me email about mega discounts and payment plans . so deal a little because they have some to give back.

JUST PURCHASED A WARRANTY GOLD "DIAMOND PLAN" VIA WWW.WARRANTYGOLD.COM SALESPERSON TRAVIS. 5YEARS/150,000 MILES WITH $0 DEDUCTIBLE FOR $1767 - $767 DOWN / 10 PAYMENTS OF $100 NO INTEREST. IT WAS EITHER THIS OR BUY A NEW AVALANCHE. AT 33K MILES I'VE STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH BURNING OIL, MASSIVE WATER LEAKS IN THE INTERIOR UNDER DRIVERS FLOOR MAT AND UNDER PASSANGER FLOOR MAT ON LEFT SIDE, LEAKS FROM MID-GATE, LEAKS IN THE REAR END CARGO AREA, ETC. BURNING 2QTS OF OIL @ 3000 MILES CONCERNS ME. FIGURED AT $1767 WAS A BETTER DEAL THAN TRYING TO PURCHASE ANOTHER AVALANCHE - FIGURING THE HIT I'D TAKE ON A TRADE-IN ON A 02 WITH 33K MILES. GOT THE FAN CLUB DISCOUNT. TURN TONS OF MILES, SO 150K WILL LAST ME FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS OR SO. JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE IF IT WAS WORTH IT OR NOT. GM QUOTED OVER $2500 FOR 100K MILES AND DEALER WAS PUSHING SOME OTHER PLAN THAT LOOKED PRETTY LIMITED. WARRANTY GOLD WON'T TAKE CARE OF WATER LEAKS, HOPEFULLY THE DEALER IF FIXING THAT RIGHT NOW.

Just a quick note. Seals and gaskets are never covered in a warranty unless they are associated with an item that is internally lubricated. Therefore if you are leaking fluids, [the Diamond covers everything, lesser warranties may not cover freeze plugs] you're covered. Weatherstripping [the problems in the previous post] aren't covered, ever, by any warranty company, including GM, no matter what they tell you. Also that 48/100k warranty mentioned above, all you did was extend the warranty by one year, unless you pound on the miles. Period. There is no exception except that miles are set in stone, and the months are from the purchase date. So...if you buy the warranty on the day of purchase, and you only bought a 48 month warranty, you're screwed except for the miles. Also, GM and aftermarket warranties do not take affect until after the factory warranty expires.
I've got a billion years in the warranty business. Check the other posts for all the answers to any questions. They are listed in one of the previous posts on this string.
I'll buy the Diamond from Jason as soon as I rack up some time on the truck.

I'm a member of Valkyrie Riders Cruisers Club (VRCC) and this topic resulted in Honda Directline offering a group buy on Extended Warranty. Normally, the E. W. was about $600 and it is available to VRCC for $342. I ORDERED MINE TODAY on my Honda Valkyrie Motorcycle. Has anyone pursued a group buy for CAFCNA? (I'll also post on "Group Buys" Section.)

If you go to the Club Partners page and scroll down almost to the bottom, you will see the special offer by club sponsor Warranty Gold. If you're looking for special member pricing on an extended warranty, you might want to see what they are offering.
