How are the factory running boards attached to the truck on a 2002-2006?

I want a set of factory ones, and have found a set in a local "you-pull" lot. Just not sure what tools and fasteners I'd be looking for.

I assume they either bolt direct to frame, or use the body mount bolts. If they use body mount bolts I'm not sure I want to try and remove my body mount bolts and risk breaking them on an 18 year old truck.

The cladded ones or the nerf bar style?

I think bolt to frame for both

The factory ones bolt to the body with the nuts being set into the sheet metal under the rocker. Yours should have them ready to bolt up the factory ones.. The metal tube type usually bolt to the frame..

I will try to take a picture later today...

Thanks. I would really appreciate pictures if you get a chance.

I am after the ones that match the cladding.

Here are the pictures..

You can see where they bolt up to the underbody. There's a nut in the body on the right in the third picture that's probably an extra one..

thank you so much!!

it looks like i need to repair my rockers before i could attempt to install any running boards. at least i know the order of projects to be done.

Sounds like you've got some rust.. As you can see mines pretty much rust free (Sunny California weather) with only a few minor areas on the frame where the coating has come off and I have always cleaned and recoated those areas. The only thing on mine that has some rust is the axle housing. I keep meaning to crawl under there and clean and paint but just haven't made it a priority..

Good luck

my outer rockers are mostly gone, and that vertical wall of the inner rocker, is there, but doesn't have any strength with the outer rocker being gone.
