Faded bubbles water warranty problems replacement of cargo panels bed covers etc

My problem is w/ the rear (closest to tailgate) bed cover, it looks warped, sagging in the middle, so much that when it rains, water collects on the rubber weather stripping along the cover where it meets the tailgate. I brought it to the dealer and their answer was the "it was normal for it to sag". Needless to say, I will be taking it to another dealer! Anyone else see this problem?

My rear most lid seems to attract water and when I take it off weights about twice what it should then leak water out when it is upright.

I'd have them swap your bed cover out.... It shouldn't fill up with water.

Mine does too a little bit.... hasn't given me a problem.... do a search on this... there's been a LOT of discussion. The tailgate has a bit of crown to it and it can be deceptive in appearance... If it's warped they should replace it

Most everyone here will tell you that panel on their truck sags to one degree or another...mine does, it hasn't created any problems for me though.

Dealer replaced my rear cover with no questions. It did the same thing sagging in the center and held water right there against the tail gate seal so when you opened it all that water fell onto the mat inside.
Now i have one a little different color than the other two, but when they are coated you can't really tell.

Please continue discussing sagging panels on one of those topics.

Please continue discussing water filled panels on this topic.

I for one are in favour of a class action suit, and I know a few others that would jump on as well.

I will keep an eye on this thread and see how many others are not happy with the way the plastic on the AV is holding out after 1 or 2 years.

MMARX, What was the outcome of your discussion with the service manager? I'm guessing not good.
GM Customer service was useless. Her suggestion was to take the AV to all the Chevy dealers in the area and see if another dealer would replace the panels. From what I'm seeing in this thread some dealers are replacing the panels. I guess there still are a few good dealers out there who take care of their customers.

I complained to my dealership months ago, they said it was my problem.
I called them back last week and told them that there was now a bulletin, and that my original complaints were not "my problem". The service manager bagan to tell me abou ttheir "fix" (using Meguires), but I jumped in and mentioned it first. I said that I had tried it, and every other product, and it wasn't a solution, just a bandaid.
He has ordered me new bed panels and new sail panel cladding.
Hopefully it will be in this week. I'll keep you guys updated.

Rob

TJCDMC, talked with the SM and got the same "use Mequire's #10" bull. Basically, GM is playing hardball with the dealers about replacing the panels.
As a side note, I know of 3 people that were going to buy an AV, but once they saw my panels, they bought something else. Like me, they were afraid that the panels would fade and GM wouldn't repair/replace panels under warranty.
I love the truck, just step up to the plate and take care of the problems....

Has any one else had this problem my 1st (one closest to the window) cargo cover is coming apart here is a pic the dealership tryed to glue it back down but 2 days with 90+ degree weather made it come apart again.

Here is the pic

There was a thread about a guy saying his panels were swelling. It looked like yours, but it hadn't seperated yet...basically looked like the panel was inflated.

That sucks, Lance. What did your dealer say?

Craig

That looks bad!
There's a guy on ebay selling pannels separately right now. Yesterday they were at like $25 or so, may want to check into it.
I'd be getting that fixed just because it looks bad. :7:

they said that since the glue did not hold that I would have to replace them and I have 60,000 miles and out of warrenty so that means I will just have to put up with it like this because they are so $$$$ well I might look at getting a 2004 so then I would have new covers (y)

a member on here has pics of his with large blisters...make em giv e ya new ones no matter what the warranty is..there is no reason for this.....when you do nothing to them and this happens make ya wanna scream at them engineers who picked out this material..............knuckleheads got a free lunch from someone over these 2002 bed covers that is for sure....

I might just call Chevrolet and tell them what is going on and tell them I am mad :8: see what they say

Do it!

It obviously isn't from neglect. You need new covers...GM is at fault, make them pay.

Craig

Yes I do work for the dealer but I work in sales and the service manager is a jerk :8: he will not do anything for anyone not even a sales guy like me :8:

This is a warranty issue. This is NOT a normal wear and tear part and is clearly a design or manufacturing defect in the part. Check your state law. A lot of states do not allow a manufacturer to limit their responsibility for a part like this that should last the life of the truck.

Last week I treated my bed panels, sail panels and side storage compartments with a vinyl protection spray-on liquid that I applied with a cloth towel. It darkened up the panels significantly and got rid of a lot of the white spots. It looks much better now - don't know how long this will last though.

I went out to the junk yard here in La Grande we are too small for a recked av so we did a nation wide search and came up with 6 AV's but none have the cargo covers on them

Has anyone had thier tonneau covers replaced under warrenty for oxidation or discoloration? I have noticed spots on my covers that appear lighter or faded. I have never treated these covers with any products that might leave a residue. Any input would be much apprieciated.
