Faded bubbles water warranty problems replacement of cargo panels bed covers etc

Has anyone tried to cover the panels with a spray on bed liner or anything that might be ultra durable? I have an 03WBH and would like to paint the cladding above the bed. But, I don't want the panels to be left out. Also, does anyone know if the cladding above the bed can be easily replaced with that of an EXT(with Caddy brake light of course.)????

suggest you search the mod section....lots of threads about both questions

i have the same problem with my covers. they are faded and have spots on them. they are supposed to have some new on order for me. i have to call them this week to find out the status. i did not have a problem with them wanting to replace them. i guess it's all in who you deal with.

HEre is something to consider.....those who have them replaced....what are ya gonna do next year and the year after.....ecspecially if they continue to fade and they do not change the materials...??

that's not for me to consider. that is for Chevy to figure out. everytime i see something i do not like i will complain. then i expect them to order another pair. and another if they have to. let them worry about that. i may not have to worry about it too long if they keep coming out with cool stuff like the SSR. the AV may not be around for long anyway.

will extended warranty cover the panels?

Bumper to bumper would include the panels I would think.

Not all extended are bumper to bumper....though.....yours may be but some are not ....

Well, finally got the new bed cover panels today. They replaced all three and they were covered under the warranty from GM. The service manager said that they rarely have to send the parts back to GM. This time GM requested that the warped covers be returned to the factory. The service manager said that his theory of why they wanted them back was that the set of 3 panels was almost $1300. He thought that they really wanted to know what was going on. We still have a few days of summer left in my area. Well see how they hold up.

Well, I don't know what to think.

My cargo panels are soooo faded, they are alomost white. They really look bad. I noticed that the cladding around the rear window is starting to look shabby as well.

Recently, I asked my dealer about this issue and he said that the cladding was not covered under warranty, kinda made me mad!

I have to bring my truck in for a transmission problem, (not shifting out of first gear). I think that I will take the issue up with the owner.

Other than that, I don't knwo what to do.

MacAv,

I would suggest searching and printing all posts where people have had panels replaced under warrany. Also try contacting them and asking if they wouldn't mind giving you a work order number or something like that. It might help you out.

Good Luck,

-Mark

On my AV all three bed panels are very faded as well as the sail panels, top panel, and the tialgate top panel. I have reciently talked to one of the service guys at two dealers and they both tell me that GM has put a hold on replacing any bed covers untill GM figures out a fix. I will be bringing my AV in on Dec-1 and i will find out more then.

My dealer has ordered new panels for my 02 said they are warped and faded it has been 2 months now and i have called a few times to find out what was takn so long and the service manager said they are making newer style panels made of a sun resistant plastic with a better seal design as a replacement and said the reason why it is takn so long is that they have to make alot of them and when 1person has them everyone will want them so they will not be released until gm feels like they have enough to go around

SWEET!!! ;D

I just spoke to my Chevy Dealership about my faded panels. The converstation went like this:

"Hi this is Byron. I bought a AV from you about a year ago. Its a 02 with 14,000 miles on it. The hard tops are badly faded. Is Chevrolet doing anything about this? I've heard different stories."

His response:
"Sure... you are under warranty. We'll just tell them the panels are warped and get you new ones. Do you want to drop it off in the morning?"

That just ROCKS!!!
Byron....which dealer was this? I need to take mine there. My local dealer is giving me a hard time about replacing my #3 panel thats sagging.

I took my AV in to the dealer to have them look at the cladding. The covers are a little faded and the area at the roof and sail panals looks striped. He told me that chevrolet is working on a fix and that if I wait that would take care of the problem after the new "fix" is out. He said if we replace them now they, the cladding, wil fade the same as the others. I asked why they didn't just put on 03 darker cladding, he didn't have an answer for that. I will be checking back to make sure something is being done. This is a good dealership and I trust them. They have already replaced tailgate cables, right foglight andsome of the water diverters in the bed. :B:

txturbo,

The old panels on the 02 Avalanche were superceded by a different part number and panel type. When I went in for the same problem (sagging third panel) the dealer replaced all three with the most current part number.

If anything have them compare the part number on your original panels, with the new replacement part number and have them switched out based on that.

Good Luck.

I thought I remember reading that the 3 bed panels cost more than $600 to replace. I would think it would cost them about $50 to make them.

I was just informed by my dealer that GM is no longer replacing the panels. They say that it is an ongoing maintenance issue. The last time in, they poured a gallon of armor all or something on it. looked great untill it rained and all that crap ran dpwn the sides of the truck. I'm writing to Chevy to express my displeasure at my $37,000 truck looking like crap.

i'm looking at a used 3/4ton this weekend(24hour testdrive) so i'll be sure to wash it before I bring it back... it will most likly have whitish pannels... then i can tell the dealership to put all new 03-04 dark charcol stuff on... then we will debate a price... it has 57000 out of 60000 kms on warrenty... so ill make sure it looks new in and out before warrenty goes up... hopefully the engine has that problem with the oil consumption / leaking so I can get a new engine too ;D

good luck with that one. Not sure why they'd go that far for a sale, but I dunno.

My service rep had to get permission from the regional service manager to OK ordering the replacement panels. Now I am told that they are going to replace all of the plastic above the bed and all of the pieces are in except 2 bed cover panels. The dealer that I brought my AV to is Bill Heard Chevrolet in Las Vegas and my serivce writer is Stu.
