I have a new 2004 AV. When is the recommended first oil change and what is the best oil? Regular or Synthetic?

I hit 1400 miles.

Thanks.

I say go by the oil life moniter

others disagree....check the threads in this Oil Change & Lube shop Section of the maintenance section.

There are several long and detailed posts on this. You'll find that there is a wide opinion on oil and changes.

I changed my oil for the first time at 1,500 miles. I changed to Mobil ! and i don't plan on turning back. I'm at 36,000 and no problems so far. (AC Delco PF-59 filter).

i say between now and 2500 miles. you could switch to synthetic like the above post says at this point as well. i don't use that oil life monitor for anything. i have a schedule i follow. i sometimes get sidetracked. in a case like that i will change it within 1500 miles, or so, of the mileage i should have done it at. i do reset the monitor, i just don't wait for it to come on.
when i think about all the false indications people have experienced here about 4wd messages, and oil life monitor messages i have to wonder. if these things light up sometimes for no apparent reason what would happen to you if they decided to just not light up at all? so i just do it the old fashion way. that's just me. some will say i am wasting money on iol changes. fine. i would rather do that than pay it to the dealer for engine failure. and if it never happens that's okay too. kinda like when you pay your insurance each month. you don't have an accident each month, but the assurance is there.

I say 3000 for the first one, and then follow the oil monitor. Or just follow the oil monitor from the get-go.

:)

the truck is equiped with a oil life monitor that well.....tells you when to change the oil...

for the best description...I suggest reading the manual for 2004 as I own 2002 and not sure how to get to it on 2004...

we have a PDF version of manual under the resource page....

Guess if I would have read the manual as I had originally planned I'd know this.

Sorry to trouble you.
