Took my first road trip with the AV last weekend, put about 1300 miles round trip running up to Philadelphia.  Just wish the circumstances were different(Funeral).  I have to admit I was very pleased with the ride and comfort.  Wasn't really sure how it would handle on the highway with the 20" wheels.  The XM radio helped also..  I was able to run up to 19.7mpg on the way up but only able to muster 19 on the trip home.  I think I was driveing alittle faster coming home >:D.  I wonder if it would get alittle better once the engine is fully broken in.  Got alot of positive comments on the truck.  My dad said "Damn" thats a big truck.  I upgraded from a Mazda Miata ;D.  So far I LOVE MY AVALANCHE!!!! :woohoo:

19!  That's awesome!  On my trip to Nashville for this little GTG I went to last weekend I put on about 1200 miles and averaged 18.2 on the way down, 17.3 on the way back.  On the way down I was mostly obeying posted speeds, not so much on the way back  >:D  Very impressed with how comfortable I was during the trip too.  :B:

Glad you're lovin' your AV, bald1der, it only gets better.....I'm lucky to get 12mpg with my lead foot.....so where you going next??

Av's are the bomb for road trips, you might see a slight increase after it's all broke in, but not much

My first big trip was 1200 miles hauling 4 people and a bed full of gear.  18 mpg with the 5.3/3.73.  A bit of AC use, and moderate altitude changes were part of it.

I have a 1000+ mile trip coming up in 26 days ..... Going from Pittsburgh to Tampa for a Cruise on the Carnival Legend...  The following week we do a hop over to Coco Beach for another week....

I did a trip to Ocean City last summer, that was my previous longest trip.  I think I about 18mpg.

Sorry about the circumstances for the trip. The AV does pretty well on the highway in comfort. The MPG is comparable to alot of lighter vehicles on the higway. Elevation changes or a stiff crosswind effect MPG but a heavier foot heading home can have a greater effect.

Sorry to hear about the funeral. I am glad however that you had such a great road trip. I have done a lot of long road trips in my Av and have enjoyed every one. I have driven from Pocatello Idaho to Milwaukee Wisconsin 8 times. That is just over 3600 miles round trip. I also have driven to my moms in California 6 times at 1700 round trip. Every trip is just a pleasure and you cannot beat the satellite radio.

Just finished the trip to Tampa.. She ran well down to here... got almost 19mpg.  (the 70mph in WV, NC, SC, GA, FL) killed my 20+ I was getting...    I used my Roadmate 800 to guide us down here, it worked quite well and we used to find a Sonic in FL (the boys wanted to go there.)...      Now I have 1 week of cruise and short trip to Coco Beach another week there before I head for home....

I went up to Oregon/Washington form the Los Angeles area for vacation. Put 2,500 miles on the AV. Averaged 18.9 With four people and fully loaded with luggage. Did about 80mph. Awesome ride for a long road trip. It took 3/4 of a tank to get to Sacramento from LA.

19 miles per gallon?! I only get about 15. What speed do ou average?

I was cruising at 75 most of the way there. When I got onto Hwy99 I had to slow to 65. I did notice that I had a hell of a lot more power in Cali then I do in Idaho. I credit that to the altitude. Pocatello Idaho sits at about 5800. San Joaquin Valley is about 200 feet. So there is a lot more air there for my truck. I have thinner air in Idaho.
