SORRY GUY's  One to many!!

:B: Well I learn that my 2006/2500 Avalanche 4x4 dose not have a steering stabilizer on it! So order a Bilstein 33-174525 steering stabilizer for my truck to help with handling.

I have the same one on mine, defiantly a easy mod since it's just a bolt on. It really just helps dampen some of the road conditions, especially if you have lift and/or running larger tires..

Nor does it have a rear swaybar.

No ! Remember I could not find a 2500 with the towing package one owner out here and had to settle for this one with 72,000 miles. And I had my 3500 HD dully then and could of waited but got impatient! Anyway this way I have all new parts and 4.56 gears. You have both for been a lot of Help  :needhug:  :beating: Thanks Donald

Yeah I hear ya, the good thing about the 2500s is most of the suspension is interchangeable with the Silverado's Another thing I did with mine was add Silverado HD Z71 bump stops this helped a bunch for 25 buck mod.

OK now what's the part #'s for the bump stops? I will add them as well.  Donald

:B:  Got my Z71 Bump Stops today. As you can see I was long past the time to replace them, so today I took care of it and installed a Bilstein 33-174525 steering shock my 4 wheel drive did not have one on it! It helps with the tracking on the road, you can your hand off the steering wheel and if the road is not rough it will track straight!  ( your front end must be in alignment and tow - in)

Wow your bump tops were past their prime alrighty and I'm not sure why GM did not put stabilizer on them at first I thought someone took it off during service and did not put it back on.

What ya want to do next  ;D

:B:  What ya want to do next  ??? The 4.56 gears were the best thing I did, the tires I have now are 285-75-16 33in. tall. I was going to order some 20in. wheels and new T/A KO but I like the look of my stock wheels and tires. hard to get the 3,600 - 3,800 lbs. weight w/ load range E @ 85 lbs. each other than 18 in. or 20 in. tires. Just put on a G2 rear cover as well. changed all of my dash light to blue LED in everything all the switches and went with US Speedo Aqua gauge face as well. also changer out the steering wheel to a Grant.

Well I would not put 20 inch aftermarket wheels on a tow beast. Most times they are not rated for the weight you tow. Your brakes will have to be upgraded big time even with my Hummer 2 wheels I notice the stopping distance in longer and I have upgraded brakes. A option may be a Sierra 2500 HD wheel they have 20s.

PS get the weight distribution hitch dialed in you have way too much weight on the front.

I can only tell ya as a friend who tows a triple axle house on wheels.

:B: Sorry for the late post!  Well as you can see at looking at the scale tickets you can see the difference with a Weight Distribution hitch and how it works from front axle - rear and trailer weights. Look at both scale tickets. Donald

What do you mean? Look at the tickets and let me know where I am off? Donald

A 2500 has at weight distribution of 52% front 48% rear with a gross weight of 6642 lb empty. So about 3454 lb front axle and 3188 lb rear. Now the weight distribution hitch can actually move the weight of the trailer from the rear axle to the front axle (see video)

If you have air bags on the AV (which you should) inflate them first before you try this.

Ok I watched it and my truck and trailer maybe 1/2 in. off but it is level as you can see in the pic's, I did this when I bought my Avalanche 2500 2 years ago but I will check it when I hook it up again to be safe. And I do not have air bags on it, If I had put air bags on it I would have Taken off the Over Load springs and went with a self leveling valve System to control the ride height and never worry. The way they were meant to be like on All air ride HD trucks for a true Air Ride. I am very happy with the ride and pulling of the trailer, believe me I would spend the money and do it myself @ my shop if I did not like it. I have pulled this trailer for over 2 years and could not be happier with the Avalanche 2500 even over my 3500 HD Dully and I used that truck for over 2 years as well. The real name should for a Avalanche 2500 should be Beast of Burden!! or Let's Carrie ON!!  :B:

Well take a piece of string where the top of the front frame is and mark the level on the front cladding then extend it to the top of the rear frame of the trailer. Is it level ???

Great!!! :E: The more level the truck and trailer are the easer the truck will stop. String what a simple way to check it out, and I will make any adjustments!!  (y) (y)

:B: Well have to leave @1500 hr. today for McGregor Range NM. At least this time I will not be taking my 28ft. Toy Hauler with me. So I will keep track with the miles and gas for the 895 miles drive, it will be nice to get away. I will get some pic's of the trip. Now I will be able to get a real feel for the mileage with the 456 gears without the trailer. Merry Christmas's to all !!  Donald

Duh

I'm not trying to lead you into something just trying to give ya hints how to tow 14,000 pounds.

Very nice, I have pulled 15k lb (gross around 22k lb) over the Rockies a few times, and other than power, the truck does great.  I have 4.10s, but am considering 4.88 or 5.13s after reading your thread. (to go with 255/85R16s).  5.13s really woke up my '01 Ram 1500. (on 37"s).

The lower gears should keep your trans happier too.  A few years ago a friend of mine rented a suburban to tow his rig with to Moab, he could out pace me on the hills (he was grossing about 14k lb and I was about 17k lb.) but my trans was staying sub 210 deg where as the 6 speed was hitting 270deg + in the suburban.
