Flag Bowties

WVBubba said:
well then step two...find a buddy with an AWSOME tool chest >:D
Unfortunately, all my friends and neighbors come to me when they need a tool...

I don't have anywhere to go but the store. :6:

But hey, it's an excuse to buy more tools! (y)

Now if I only knew the size... I know, I'll buy them all! :0:

I haven't seen one yet. I made my own. Just pull your stock one off, lightly sand it, prime it and then get a small can of DupliColor. Spray about 5 coats and clear coat it. Painted black bowtie

Cool Pic...from that angle that bow tie kind of gives your beast an NASTY attitude :eek:Mod On :B:

Thanks WV. The parking lot does lean down a little for drainage. Gives it even more rake! You'd think I had air shocks all jacked up or something!

One thing that will help is to secure it somehow. I haven't done this yet, but I plan on it soon. Drill two very small holes in the clips on the back of the bowtie. Get some safety wire (or bailing wire) that is about .03 or .04. Simply run the wire between both holes and wrap the wires around each other. Mechanics probably know what I am talking about. Not only will this defeat an easy theft, it will more securely keep it in place.

Jamie

That's (almost) exactly what I did last night. I removed the flag bowtie (w/ hood closed in 3.1 seconds, new personal best ;)) and drilled two 5/64" holes close to ea other in each of the tabs, just above the center of the "fat" part. Then used a Utility knife to cut out the small space in between resulting in a rectangular slot in ea tab. Then threaded a beefy, foot long ty-wrap thru one tab, inserted the two free ends of it in the grille hole and pushed/clicked in the bowtie right behind it. Then, using long nosed pliers from underneath and occasionally a screwdriver from above, pulled the ty-wrap thru the other tab and looped it back and thru the "head" of the ty wrap. Felt like a surgeon putting in stitches. Cinched it up (but not too tight, as you're pulling the tabs towards ea other here, which is how you remove the bowtie to begin with) and cut off the excess.
Would be very difficult now to remove cleanly (I understand comment made above about a would-be thief trying to just "pull" it off). In fact, I'll have to have the hood open to cut away the ty-wrap myself if I ever so desire.
I think I like this better than the glue or adhesive idea because it is more easily reverseable...
ShapeShifter makes a good point about other parts being easily removed. My only counter (in good spirited nature :)) is that a windshield wiper or OnStar antenna, etc aren't, well, cool. I mean, they're just stock, boring parts. Kinda like the factory gold bowtie. But the flag bowtie; not boring and very cool  !

Yep, you got a good point there. The bowtie attracts attention, and the other stuff... well... they don't! :cautious:

I found two posts that mention the size of those bolts. Yours calls it "a big torx" and another calls it "a big a$$ torx."

While descriptive and accurate, neither one is quite the answer I'm looking for.

This is to funny!! Laughed till tears :cry:came. We need more of this

FYI -

For those AV owners in the D/FW area, you can get a Texas Flag bowtie decal from the Bruce Lowrie Chevy dealer in Ft. Worth for $10. I got one and I'm just going to put that on my AV and make sure it's sealed really well.

;D

The size torx bit your looking for is a T60.
Interesting. In my case, the cargo bed tiedown bolts turned out to be a T50. Could we have different size bolts? ???

I'll second that (y) T50 here also.

Ok, not asking about flag bowties, but what about other print bowties? Anyone know of a website that makes non-flag custom bowties? I was wanting to find a checkered flag print one....

Leeeeeeeeeeeemme know! ;D

wonder ... I haven't seen many jump into the AV bowties business. I suggest you contact Joe W. with the idea and see what he thanks. He has done some special orders for some members.

This is a great looking addition to the front of the AV. I will be ordering mine tonight. Can't wait to have it! Thanks for the great idea Joe!

speaking of a vinyl i own a vinyl cutter and i make my own decals to docorate my truck. just traded in my 2001 taho for a avalanche and so far loving it other than the ping noise from the engine almost everytime i start the engine. but anyhow i can cut letters or graphics for AV club members for a small material cost and may be a donation to the club also. i don't make decals for living so.....i have learned so much from this forum..very helpful. anyways if anyone needs and then i can make them.

Just put my Stars & Stripes bowtie on today & it looks awesome! Especially nice with Arrival Blue color. Just ordered the Stars & Stripes Z71 Off Road decals from decalking.com. Can't wait to see how great they'll look with the rest. Thanks Joe W.

I have both the Flag Bowtie (on billet grille) Stars & Stripes Z71 decal on my Victory Red. Sharp. You will love it, and I'm sure it'll look AWESOME on the Arrival Blue. Note of caution on the decals - the dealer did it for me, ripped one of the decals and had to order another, at his cost, of course (from decalking) - I know there is a thread here somewhere discussing the best way to remove the old and apply the new ones.

You have good taste! (y)

Didn't I see that there was another flag bowtie? I looked like the waving flag tint I have across my back window. I can't seem to find the info anywhere.

Does anyone know where it is?

Jim

I just requested a USA Flag Bowtie from Joe. ?This is my first post and it already is costing me money! I love this club. ?

My factory bowtie got chipped by a rock (darn the luck!) and I just have to have a new one!

Thanks to Joe and the CAFCNA! ?:B: ;D
