I am new to this board and I just purchased an '04 2500. I want a dual out the back exhaust system and from what I have been reading a popular muffler is the Flowmaster series. However, I can not determine which is better, the 50 or 70 series. I would like a system that has a really good agressive sound that is not too loud on the inside. Which do I choose? what are the pros and cons of each? Open to all suggestions. Thanks

I tossed in a Flowmaster 50 2 in 2 out muffler and am totally satisfied with it. Didn't do what Dragonslayer did due me wanting to tow with my 2002 2500.

Total cost....$240

Buddy tossed a 70 big block 2 in his gmc sierra and it seems to be queit compared to the 50 series. Depends on what you are really looking I reckon.

I am looking for something that has a real nice sound to it, but while noticable in cab, I do not want it to be too loud so that I could not hold a conversation! Any help is appreciated!

I've only heard the 70 with the 2500, not the 50. Sounds good, not too loud.

The 50 on my 1500 is not so loud that you can't hold a conversation, but could be annoying to some.

If you don't want too loud, just get the 70. Otherwise, you'll have to find someone with the 2500 and the 50 to let you know, and even then it will be subjective. You'll never really know unless you hear in person, and I'd say finding a 50 on a 2500 near you is a slim chance.

Good luck! :)

Yeah you will prolly want to follow these guys advice. The 50 has a lovely growl that I do enjoy but at the 1500 to 2000 rpm range it gets a lil noisy:)

Hope you enjoy pumpin gas cause I can't keep my foot off the pedal! Just got mine done 4 days ago and totally changes my opinion of the truck:)

Helllo,

I just purchased a left over 2003, 2500 ;D. Want to make it sound mean , nut keep it legal for N.Y....I was wondering if anyone has just spliced in a new Flowmaster Delta flow 50.. If so,how does it sound. Any one have a sound clip of theirs....HELP

Fatalanche,

You explain how to post some sounds and I will gladly put em up. I believe my Sony Mavica can take like 10 seconds motions clips with sound I just have no clue how to post stuff like that.

WOW! That is a sweet looking ride Dragon. Do you have complete pics? I would love to see them. I like the looks and from what you say the sound is exactly what I want. Hope you dont mind if I steal your ideas...lol!!

Hey guys,

Whats the bottom line with the dual exhaust? Is there a kit, or is it custom bent pipe.

Thanks

John

The 2500 has a 2 in and 2 out muffler from the factory. You can use a Flowmaster 530504 which is the same set-up 2 in-2out to keep piping to a minimum. I would suggest then taking the the 2 out over the rear axle discard the factory Y 2 into 1 and either take both out the Pass. side or out each side depending how much $ you want to spend. Use stainless., it lasts.

I do not know how loud this muffler is, if anyone has one installed can they do a sound bite and post as a wmv. file? I want to do this set up myself, just dont want too much noise.

Remember, 530504 is the BIG BLOCK 50 series, I think they were talking about the Delta 50 series, since that is what Rich has.

At any rate, use two mufflers on the 8.1L's, they have adequate exhaust pressure to actually take advantage of this setup. The dual in, dual out options tend to resonate more.

And for god's sake, install an equalizer pipe! >:D

Muffman:

Whats wrong w/ the 50 Big Block series? The 8.1 L is a BIG BLOCK.

I am looking to improve performance w/o going hog wild. Plan to tow with my 2500, not race. Do you like 2 flowmaster 70's better for the 8.1?

I like the BB 50 series when two can be run seperately. But with a 5 x 12-inch oval case, they hang to low on the 2500 AV because of limited clearances above the exhaust pipes. Furthermore, dual in dual out resonates too much for my taste.

That is why I recommend the Magnaflow 5 x 8 x 24-inch mufflers (two) on the 8.1L motors, with an equalizer pipe.

Definitely the crossover tube. It mellows the sound from a Pop Pop Pop to more of a rumble. Might even try one before and after the Flowmaster (while there in there). Especially if you want to dumb out in front of the rear wheels.

(y) Hey hears my two cents I took the Flowmaster off mine due to cabin noise I just ran one but the vibration and cabin noise was to loud for me so I went with Magnaflow nice sound no cabin noise.
