I'm thinking about upgrading my fog lights. Does anybody know what the differences are between the 885 and the 893 bulbs are?

Any brands that you've had bad luck with and I should stay away from?

Any other things I should think about before I buy?

Thanks
Andy

I'm not sure if 885s fit. I sell Blue and Yellow Plasmaglows which are xenon / krypton, and much brighter. You may want to use yellow for superior fog penetration. If for show I recommend the Blue. I think alot of members have used the Plasmaglows and liked them. Email me at sales@CarModsUSA.com, if you interested.

here's one link i found: What kind of bulbs to get, and best prices

The 885 fits just fine. I believe the only difference, as pointed out in another thread, is the 893 is slightly shorter. Both are 55 W however.

I am running Mercury Xenon 885s and there look superb matched with my SilverStars.

I really like my 885's. ?They are much brighter than the 37.5watt bulbs.

The only trouble I had was getting them to rotate back into the socket itself. ?With a little effort they popped right in and are great.

That being said, we had a truck with stock bulbs and mine next too it, the 885's were considerably brighter.

just my 2c

If you read through enough posts, you will find:

Stock Fogs ~ 27 Watts
893's ~ 37 Watts
885's ~ 50 Watts

As far as I was aware of, the 893's are 37.5 watt.
are these the Xenon's were running. I know Smiley picked up mine for me at Stylin Conceps to the tune of 30 bucks?
I only got them as they match the Silver Stars I am running, Hi and Lo

Sands, yes those are the Xenons we are running. A great match to the SilverStars (y) ;D

I am also searching for new fog lights. ?I purchased a set of 9005/9006 Xeons and LOVE them. ?I did have to re-adjust the headlights to point correctly afterwards, so either I knocked something or the factory settings sucked....either way they are very bright white/blue and light up the streets. ?Just need to find some fog lights that are birghter/closer in color (you can really see the yellow light now ?:) )

Here is a link to the ones I bought...$30 plus S&H

Fog Lights, you would think it would be simple?

I have been reading the various posts and decided that hey what a simple inexpensive upgrade :0:. Inexpensive is good since I am adjusting from $12 to fill up the Altima to $35++++ for the Avalanche. Wouldn't have it any other way though.

Is there any special brand that everyone recommends? I got a set of Sylvania 885's (50w) from WalMart for $4.96 each . Either I'm lucky and got a deal (not usually) or I have purchased the wrong brand.

While at Autozone I saw the Silverstars that I believe everyone is talking about. What's a good price for them?

Thanks for any info, and I also appreciate all the ideas and help that's available.

Many, including me, have ordered the xenon 885 from a guy in Canada. You will find him on ebay.

I paid $25 per silver star at local store.

I went to the Wal-Mart store and picked up the 885 lights (50W) and installed them. They made a huge difference compared to stock. But they don't look that good compared to my Xeon headlights. So I think i'll upgrade again with some that are tinted blue.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Ha sanyone experianced any problems stemming from bumping the Watts up? Heat for example on the Plastic lenses??? I just want to be sure before I make an investment like I'm planning this afternoon (y)
Somebody please advise soon so I can go make a purchase!

I have been running 50W (885) ?Mercury Xenon fogs for at least 6 months now. No signs of discoloration anywhere on the housing(s) and no apparent wiring overheating either. I also have the R&D fog controller so my fogs are on whenever my lights are on.

I really liked my 899 bulbs (38 watts) but I like my 885 bulbs even better! ;D

When I run those with my Silverstars it's like a patch of daylight on the road in front of me.

Here's the scoop on SilverStars from Sylvania: SilverStar High Performance Halogen.

Also, here's the scoop on PIAAs: PIAA Professional Halogen Lamp Systems.

Either bulb, you can't lose. You will be VERY pleased though as you'll soon realize how "yellow" the stock bulbs are!

Just wonderin'

Having the Silverstars and Xenon 885's how often do you get "beamed" from oncoming drivers? I realize that after you blast them with the highs >:D that there will be no further "beaming", but I am nevertheless curious as to how often this happens.

Also regarding the heat of the 885's, did anyone experience over heating during the summer months when it was 80 or 90 at night and had them on for a long time? Some of you Texas Av's should know.

Thanks again,
Rainman

Rainman, I have only been flashed twice. If you are constantly being flashed, it is not likely the intensity of your lighting but the alignment of your beams. I will tell you anytime I am at a stop sign/light, the driver of the car in front of me needs to dim their rear-view mirror quite often. Also, if I am slightly to the left of them when behind, it's like the cop with his side spot light in the mirror. Therefore, I try to stay behind and not too far left.

I checked out Jamies links to Sylvania and PIAA.
Sylvania has a $10.00 Rebate coupon on their site for the Silverstars.

Thanks Jamie.

Anytime brother! I would now recommend you go get yourself some Xenon 885 fogs to compliment the SilverStars. You'll see when you get them installed. They will match the color of the SilverStars.

Help Please!!
Got some great info on this thread but not enough to decide what to do in my case.

On eBay I won some 885's for $10.00. When they arrived they were the 893s with a note saying
"893 is equivalent of 885". :8:

I noticed on this thread that they have different watts but I'm not sure exactly what that means for appearance.

I'm a classic over reactor so I compromise by letting the little things go and concentrating everything I have on the bigger stuff. Do you guy's think this is a battle worth fighting (not on principle alone) or should I just be happy with what I got?

Thanks,

Joe

The 885's are 50W, the 893's are 37.5W. The difference being the 885's will be brighter because of the higher wattage. I do not know as to how much brighter the 885's are but they will be brighter.

Hope this helps,

SS--
