I just installed a set of ford torsion keys on my 1500 avalanche. I just wanted to know how far should the bolt be out of the metal keeper ? Should it be as far in as it was on the chevy keys? ???

My bolts stick out farther, as the ford keys have a different index than the stock keys.

I adjusted mine until the truck sat level all the way around, then I had it aligned with the new tires mounted.

Ok I have some questions on the keys and changing tire sizes.

1. How big of tire can I get on 17" wheel that wont rub without trimming?

2. Does the speedometer need to be recalibrated for bigger tires?

3. After doing the keys how many wish they just did a 3" body lift?

TIA

not sure with question #1, but...

Q#2: yes it does, anytime the diameter of the tire is different then stock (31.6" tall) the speedo should be reclaibrated.... although most probably don't.... if you were to install a 32" tall tire, your speedo will barely be out... so it depends really on how much of a change in size...

Q#3: I have a body lift and will probably be doing the Keys as well shortly...

Don't forget question #4, Will I need longer front shocks in the front after ajusting? If you do some off road driving your stock shock will act as a limiter and not let the suspension move it's full travel and soon you will be replacing the shocks. I did this on the 02 that I had before.
If you drive mostly on paved roads you should be fine, a stiffer ride but looking good too (y)

Question number 1. Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT 275/70/17 has a 32.4" O.D. (stock is 31.6")Goodyear same size has an O.D. that is too big and will probably rub on a full turn. ( I had a 16 tire that was 32.9" and rubbed on a full turn) (y)Number 2 ,your speedo will be slightly off,but not enough to get you a ticket.Number 3?

Hey terry, you are not increasing suspension travel by doing this, so why would you need longer shocks? Besides, you will hit the bump stops before the shock bottoms out...

There is a downward bumpstop, correct?  So my blown bilstein is not from bottoming out, but simply from constant operation out of its design tolerance?  Any recommendation for a new shock that will perform better (be stronger) with my hack-job, I'm-a-cheapskate F-key lift?  ;)
