I am a maniac when it comes to my auto glass. I hate streaks - I hate nothing more. I'd rather have water spots on my paint than a streak on my glass. So I've tried everything. For years I've used a rather nasty ammonia based foam cleaner with newspaper. Hey - it doesn't streak (and I don't use it on mirrors, learned the hard way that the fibers in the newspaper can swirl them up).

Well in my quest for the perfect glass I'll buy any new product and I'm in love. I bought a bottle of Eagle One 20/20 Glass Cleaner and this stuff is awesome! It is the first product I've found that will leave no streaks at all when using a terry towel to clean the glass (versus paper towels, shop towels, or news print).

Well - that's my shameless plug, the stuff rocks - my glass is "invisible" which is the way I like it.

Out of curiosity does the "Eagle One" brand contain ammonia? The reason why I ask is because, if you have tinted windows (not factory tint) the ammonia will start pulling out the color in your tint and cause the tint turn purple !! It takes time for this to occur but with constant use of a ammonia based window cleaner you will end up with purple tint.
I guess if your into purple this is a cool look. :cautious:

nope its not amonia based. i have the eagle 1 20/20 stuff and it says on the back of the bottle that it will not harm window tint. this stuff does rock!

Most car window cleaners do not have ammonia due to the damage it can do to interior parts.

Another good glass cleaner is Stoners Invisible Glass.

The Eagle 1 20/20 is very good stuff.

Oh a tip for windows.

Spray the cleaner on then wipe the cleaner around with a micro fiber towel. then buff dry with a green surgical towel. These towels also come in blue and are great. This will produce a great lint free streak free window.

Also when buffing buff in one direction in the inside and another on the outside. Say vertical outside and horizontal inside. This makes it easier to identify where any spots may be.

There are others. Email Eagle one from their site. They have good customer service.

Hi Folks:

Thought I would chime in here... Most household glass cleaners do contain ammonia depending on the brand being used. ?Most automotive grade glass cleaners do not contain ammonia for reason stated above (interior trim, upholstery etc.). ?The importance of the ammonia content is even more critical if one has aftermarket tint installed. ?The ammonia does not affect the overall color of your film (UV Rays do) but it does attack the film's adhesive causing bubbles and fingers to form while voiding any manufacturers warranty in effect. ?

Products like Stoker (sp?) Invisible Glass and Eagle One 20/20 are extremely window film friendly and can be applied in direct sunlight without streaking. ?There are a few others out there if you are willing to look into its formula and experiment on an old clunker but why bother knowing these works best. ?Hope this helps...

Hey ygmn!

plz tell me where do you find those surgical towels at??
I have the micro fibre which I use with water only, while it produces good results it still wont get rid of those little hard water rings I get on my glass, will that EAGLE 1 20/20 etc. get rid of those rings?? ??? ???

thanks for any info!

I found some at a medical supply store. I have seen them at Pep boys too. Try a Pharmacy.

When there pick up those long medical swabs too they are excellent for cleaning in the vents and other difficult places.

The best (and only stuff) I use, is a product called "Bar keepers friend" It is a powder, that comes in a can, kind of like comet. It is designed for cleaning bars, and glass counter tops. Mix the powder with water, and it will clean the heck out of just about anything. No streaks on glass, and it will remove any residu like rain-x off from the glass as well.

Great stuff, I highly recommend it.

ygmn,
You mention getting green or blue surgical towels at medical supply stores. A medical supply store in my city says they have disposable OR (operating room?) towels. Is this the same thing? Are the ones you reference disposable? Thanks.

Operating room I guess.

They should be cotton and have a tight weave. Not terry.

Wash em and they do not lint!

Good Luck

Figure this is a good place to warn about Turtle wax glass cleaner.

WORST EVER....

I thought I had my tire spray....similar bottles...
it's now in the trash.....

why you're here read previous info....

I'm going to have to try some of that Eagle One 20/20 stuff. I've tried about three others and can not get my glass clean. It's like there is some kind of grease or something on the edges that keeps getting pulled onto the glass. Everytime I clean the windshield it Looks like it's been scrubbed with McDonald's fries.

Get some microfiber towels. I got mine at the local part store. Spray Glass with cleaner and clean with towel. Now take a clean dry towel and buff clean. The film you are speaking of will be gone. I would like to know what it is though. This is the only vehicle I have ever seen this happen.

Just wanted to add another vote for Stoners Invisible Glass. The stuff is amazing. Sprays on as a foam and takes off all tree sap, bugs and whatever no problem. I even use it all over the house!!

Thanks for the tips on auto glass cleaning products. My wife likes to go the window tint shop to buy amonia free cleaner which erks me since it s $10 for a 4oz bottle and is crap as far as I am concerned not to mention the rippin off. Also to let you know what I have found that works very well to clean glass, and don't laugh till you try it, but use coffee filters. They seem to hold together very well and don't leave fuzzies.

I'm with MR.SMITH on the microfiber towels. I buy them by the stack at Costco.. `em.. Especially on the finish, chrome, rims & glass!

I'm going for the 20-20 - need to stop using the windex on the Av windows anyway. I'll bet it wreaks havoc on the rubber seals.

I hope 20-20 won't be hard to get off those mouldings & seals. (Like wax).

Per testing of 25 glass cleaners by Roadfly, the top 4 are: Bon Ami Glass & Surface, Turtle Wax Clearvue Auto Glass Cleaner, Sprayway glass cleaner, and Mother's glass cleaner. Bon Ami and Sprayway may be hard to find, but I found Sprayway at my local hardware store. Stoner invisible glass tested very well also, but was found to leave a film behind. All of these products are ammonia free.

Some tips for glass cleaning:

1) Most important tip: Use #0000 steel wool with your glass cleaner. #0000 will not scratch your glass, but will greatly improve your glass cleaner. Do not use on aftermarket tint.

2) Use a good quality microfiber towel immediately after the #0000. Bad microfiber towels leave lint, good ones don't. Some are designed specifically for glass. They work very well.

3) Use verticle cleaning motions on the outside and horizontal cleaning motions on the inside. That way if you have a streak, you will easily be able to tell which side it's on.

4) There is such a thing as glass polish available from Autoglym, Detailer's Pride, and Zaino. They will remove tough stains like water spots, but will not remove scratches or etches. Detailing Clay may also be used on glass.

i have been fighting keeping my windows clean, the outside especially.

renger fan mentioned, what roadfly said, and i agree the best outside window cleaner I have found is bon-ami

I went to the web site, for...l.o.f, which is the brand of the glass, which is printed on the glass itself.

I have been aggrivated at an overspray on the windshield, which did not stick to my paint, cause it is waxed up.

the bon ami cleaned the glass to an invisible , look thru

just be sure to rinse it all off, several times, never use on tint, and dont mix up the rag, or sponge.

I'm gonna try the steel wool, a friend at a car dealership mentioned it

thinking about the glass, I noticed a small crack in the frame of the midgate window, and im out of warranty, and I think the window is about 1500 bucks.

I bet, a frame for the rear glass could be made from starboard for a couple hundred bucks, and if mine cracks bad, i,m gonna try to make the frame before droppingthe big bucks,

at least i got one new one before the warranty ran out.

gotta keep my av clean

got change

Check with your insurance company. If you can think of some good excuse for it breaking (big pothole), they should cover it under comprehensive. Most people have $0 or some other low deductible on comprehensive.
