Four Brake lights and turn signals

I do not have a trailor wiring setup on my vehicle. It has the towing holes in the bumper but other than that it doesn't have the trailor harness I don't believe. I fiddled with it for like 2 hours yesterday and couldn't get it to work so I put everything back the way it was and said screw it lol...

It's accessible up front. Tap the points in the fuseblock, plug in the fuse(s) and run them back there at least. (In some loom.) Then continue it in steps.

My 03 didnt have a factory hitch kit BUT the harness is still on the Av whether or not you dont have a hitch. You have to go under your truck and look to the left and it should be tucked in the frame near the rear bumper. I added a hitch kit to my 03 and was told where to find the trailer harness buy a person in the part department.

Now is this setup your talking about the same on Silverado 04

Like I said all I could get to work is the turn signals would work when the brake was not pressed in. The brake would over ride the turn signal

If they sum instead of isolate, yes. The trailer turn signal wiring combines the function, where the turn signal has priority, and flashes properly. Adding the diode to the brake light original source, instead of just removing the connection, would sum the operation and the brake light operation would have priority.

There should be little, if at all difference in the Silverado setup. Similar lighting as I have seen.

Edit: Now that I have looked, Some Silverado's have amber turns, like tahoes & `burbs.

But, that's an obvious item to correct to your preference...

Completed.

You're right. I hope to get the brake light / turn signals portion done this weekend on a couple of Avs. Looks pretty straight forward. I love the way it looks with LOF ! Good job!

All of these wires come from the fuse box, so is there any reason you couldn't just wire it up under there?

Did this mod last night at the Connecticut Monster Garage as part of our "Friday Night Monster Moddness"

Lights... Lights... and more Lights

Looks sweeeeeeeeet!

I suppose you could, but there is much more room in the taillight cavities.
I had enough trouble just doing the 4-on-High at the fuse panel.

I want this mod and I think I understand for the need to use the diodes and how everything is connected, however, I just have one question...
In the tail light there is already a brake and a turn signal wires, why are you showing going down to the trailer harness to get the signals? Why not get them from the wires in the taillight bucket?
Ok, that is 2 questions.
Thanks for the help.

The wires in the taillight bucket are either Brake OR Turn (aside from the Ground, BkUp & Tail of course).

If you parallel them or diode- couple them, you would sum the operation. The brake light would override the turn light.

The single wire (per side ) that the trailer uses, is a combined function. Turn and brake. So you just use it, instead of the (lower) turn lamps, as they have it.

That makes sense to me.
But, that being the case, why not cut the light wires in the tail light bucket and soley(sp?) control the lamps from the trailer harness? And elimate the diodes.

If you do that both lights will be brake lights when the brakes are applied or turn signals when they are on. You will not get one brake light and one turn signal when both are applied.

By using a combination of the original wires (with diodes) and the trailer wires, you get two brake lights or two turn signal lights or one of each (as in the stock configuration)

The way I wired mine - only the lower lamps combine operation exclusively, the uppers are brake only. No diodes.

If I coupled the upper and lower to the trailer circuit instead, almost 2/3rd's of the trailer's turn/brake fuse capacity would be used up. But I would only gain all four (2 or 2) turn.

His method apparently allows all four to turn & brake, but uses diodes to isolate function.
I don't know if in his circuit, the lamps themselves stop flashing during braking or not.

If the brakes are applied while a turn signl is on, the brake light stops flashing. Once the brake is released, the light starts flashing again.
