I think I'm just going to keep my mouth shut.....because I just went out to take a pic with just the running lights and now the flasher is going crazy fast.? And nooooo I haven't been drinking? ;)........I'm now perplexed as to why when I went out earlier the flasher and cruise were working perfectly fine, now at dusk the flasher is once again blinking very quickly. ???

But here is a pic of just the running lights.

Being that it's not as bright outside as it was earlier, it's kind a hard to tell the difference in the LED brightness.

If your only problem is turn signal flash rate - try an all electronic flasher available at most good auto parts stores.? It will cost more than a standard flasher. Most OEM units are thermal and will blink fast or slow changing with the current load.? Some use these electronic ones with trailers also - the extra load changes the flash rate.? I don't think this type of flasher will help or hurt the cruise control issue.

any chance you have a part number for the differnt style flasher...I like that idea and get rid of 2 of those damn resistors.

I checked 2 different auto parts stores...both had "electronic" flashers...but both of them said they signal bulb failure by doubling the flash to let the operator know that one of the bulbs are out...not what I want!

I may have spoken too soon about using a heavy duty or electronic flasher - I've been trying to identify the flasher in the Avalanche - It looks like we may have a special $40 "Module" and not the traditional flasher.  It handles both Hazard and Turn Signal lighting, plus the signals out to the trailer connection.  I'm sure somebody out there knows for sure?

If the AVs do have a unique module, then using load resistors may be the only way to "fool" the module into working.  Plus it will keep the cruise control working.

I don't like having to use extra loads since they generate heat and can damage plastic parts depending where they are mounted.  Just stay off the brakes and don't signal - (don't signal part is normal for Boston area!)

I have since found "electronic" flashers, and they all say they have a "lamp out indicator" and they do it the same way, by flashing at 2x the rate....oh well...I'll keep the resistors, I guess.

Sam stopped by the other day and I convinced him to help me with a few mods.? We took a couple of hours and modded the brake lights to run 4 on.? I think this is one of the first mod folks were doing and I?m just now getting around to doing it myself.? I was too chicken to attempt this with a knowledgeable electrical modder.? Or at least someone who?s not afraid to make a mistake.

I?m not going to give the normal step-by-step because they are already some great instructions out there.?
Four Brake lights and turn signals?

Just sit back and enjoy the pictures.

Prepping the wires #2 and ?grasshopper? listening to the master #3

Of course it would be official unless Oscar (sorry wife won the battle on the name) was there for support #9 and Sam tying into the trailer wires to complete the circuit#10

Since you're leaving Ramstein at 9.00, we're going to have all the time needed to do it in the afternoon .

Thanks to JHC for this fun and simple mod!!

Did mine last week and I LUB it!!

Question though........  I opted to install the 6amp diodes to protect things a bit more. Can I change my brake lights out with brighter bulbs? I already have the 55W reverse lights and a LOF/F&I. Would moving to higher watt brake/turn bulbs fry my system??

Thanks

If I do this mod, will I still ge the proper burned out bulb indication on the dash?

Is this gonna be a prob for NYS inspection?

What does this do to the lights of a trailer if n when I tow?

thx

The diodes prevent feedback into the system, so my guess is the burned out will still work.

NYS inspectors likely won't notice the change in functionality, it's not like you put green bulbs in.

Trailers not effected, although you are powering the truck bulbs at times with the trailer wiring, so if your trailer has a lot of lights on it, you might have a current draw issue.
I did my mod with relays powering the bulbs off the stock signals to isolate trailer wiring from truck wiring (posted diagram someplace in this thread).  Not really needed to use relays instead of diodes, but just wanted to do it a different way.
