Four Brake lights and turn signals

Any recomendations in connecting the diodes if I don't know how to solder or have the soldering equipment....Also, I am trying this on my 2004 2500HD and they have a small blinker light in the lower outside corners that blinks intermittent of the current single blinker....Does it need a diode and to be linked to the trailer wiring as the current brake and blinker light?

You could use the pink or red color butt splice connectors with a good pair of crimping pliers.

Don't worry about the corner turn signal bulbs, just need to tie in the main circuits. Most don't even blink unless the parking lights are on (that's way the circuit is setup).

I haven't seen any recent replies, but I did this with the relays and diodes, It looks great, but the problem I have is that the two left bulbs flash when the signal is on, but when I have a right turn signal, only the bottom bulb flashes. In other words, if I have my hazards on, all of the bulbs flash except the top right bulb, does anyone know what I can do to to fix this?

Thanks, I just touched a few of the connections, and now everything works exactly as it should. I might have used a different type of relay (275-024:cool: than Ginman did (275-24:cool:, but I used his chart because I do tow a trailer as well, and I just wanted to be safe.

If yours is like mine, if you apply the brakes, only the bottom bulb for each side will blink, but when you release the brakes, both top and bottom will blink.

Not sure if my AV is special, or if anyone else's does this.  Just curious.

Isn't that how the mod is supposed to be...?  Click the link for the "visualizastion" of this mod...

My 2005 does exactly this, in that chart of what the mod does, that's what it says. (My bad connection caused one bulb to not work the right way, but it now works 100% correctly)

So I did the mod using the relays. Pretty simple and straight forward. I always solder all my connections. The local auto parts stores had very little supplies as far as relays, so I scrambled between two competitors that share the same parking lot. Finally got all four relays, forgot to mention I did my Av and my buddies Av as well. I also did the All On High mod to his as well, did mine almost a year ago.

1: We took our time and routed the wires from the seven pin, neatly routing along the existing wire looms to each side, completed all connections (as described in the posted directions) and then finally started to wrap up.

2: I soldered all 4 connections to each relay. ( I hate letting moisture have any chance to ruin any connections ).

3: This is where I always take the extra step in preventive maintenance. I use 2" masking tape or the equivalent, start about half way down the relay making a wall around the relay going about 3/16 to 1/4 inch past any bare wires or terminal ends.

4: Then I use hot glue sticks and my medium sized hand torch and start filling in the tape perimeter by melting the glue sticks. This will keep all connections very weather proof.

5: Once done, remove the tape. Use a self tapping screw or two sided tape (be sure to prep both surfaces with a alcohol pads if using the two sided tape), mount each relay behind the tail light.

Yeah, you can just use a relay and the corresponding relay connector that is "weather proof", but that would be way to easy. The local auto part stores do not keep much electrical parts on hand and not to mention the price they get for what you may want/need. So this to me the hot glue method is the next logical step.

Cool mod for sure, like stated before, too bad you as a driver will not get too many chances to see it. Just knowing it works like it should and will not rot out any time soon is going to have to keep you content.  (y)

Ok, please say this is as easy as I don't think it is!

I really want to do this but can't wrap my head around how. I just did the all on-hi mod today but this looks a lot more complicated.  :needhug:

Between this mod, the sail panel mod and the Fire-N-Ice LOF, my current draw is tremendous. My engine drops a little in RPMs sometimes when I hit the brakes. Than I stand back there and have someone else hit the brakes and I see why.  :yakmar:

bump. I really want to do it as I have the diodes....

Remember diodes have an Anode and a Cathode. The Anode is the arrow on the diagram and points the direct of signal flow. On the actual diode you only see a line which is the Cathode. So place the Cathode on the load side (bulb) and the Anode will be on the 12 volt supply. This prevents current from going back down that line if several wire are tied to the bulb with different power sources.

I think this is going to be my first mod I do to my avalanche. I just need to go to radio shack to pick up some diodes and I should be good to go. (Or good to stop.)

I'd like to change this circuit a little bit as follows:

Lights off - all bulbs are off
Lights off right turn only - 2 right side bulbs flash (bright filament)
Lights off brakes only - all 4 bulbs are on (bright filaments)
Lights off right turn and brakes - 2 bulbs on left side are solid (bright filament), 2 bulbs on right side flash between bright and dim filaments
Lights on - all dim filaments are on
Lights on right turn only - all dim filaments are on. 2 right side bulbs flash (bright filament)
Lights on brakes only - all dim filaments are on. All 4 bulbs are on (bright filaments)
Lights on right turn and brakes - all dim filaments are on. 2 bulbs on left side are solid (bright filament). 2 bulbs on right side flash between bright and dim filaments.

Will this circuit accomplish what I am trying to do? Have I over looked any scenarios in my description? Is there any reason why this is a bad idea?

I ended up doing this mod the same as the OP. Everything seems to work perfect, although I'm not sure which bulb flashes with the turn + brake combination. I can't remember how I did it now. ???

When signaling a turn and braking at the same time, the bottom light will dim and brighten with the flashing of the turn signal, while the top bulb will stay bright.  Once you release the brakes (but still have the turn signal on), both lights will dim and brighten until the turn signal goes off.  Then both lights will stay dim (parking lights).

Thanks for that. My thinking is that when I did this I was wiring the taillight upside down. So I think there is a chance that the top light flashes and the bottom bulb stays bright when the turn signal and brake are both on. Oh well, same difference right?
