This is my first post to this site - Love the site!

Ordered a 2003 Sunset Orange - Cannot wait
I have been looking for clear corner lenses for the front of an Av ever since the car came out. I love the truck, but would prefer the look without the amber reflector pieces in the outermost section of the turn signal and headlight housings. Has anyone worked on opening and removing the small reflectors that are in the truck stock? Have done this mod to my 2000 Sierra 1500, now i am trading her in.

Thanks for your time

I may be wrong ... which is highly likely ...

but I think all the lenses are clear they just use a amber bulb.....I will look again but I think so....

Oh I think you mean the reflector ... thingy that reflects light when a cops big flash light shines on them....

Not sure...would it be legal??

I've seen some of the guys on the other boards try and completely mess up their lenses.

If you can do it and it is legal in your area please post results ;D

The amber corner lights and the red in the rear (sides) are covered under federal law. Look at all stock cars they have the amber front corner lights and red rear. You can get a ticket in any state if you change them. Most likely few in law enforcement would bother. It is enforced in Calif. I have written citations for clear corner lights. Most common on Hondas and Acuras.

ahh yes Mr Aegis Officer Sir, but what about clear lenses with the red where the red must be?

but this will get you a ticket from Officer Aegis:

Aegis, as a board member I love you man, but writing tickets for things like clear lenses, ?- - -dude! Wasup with that? I'll take the speeding ticket (assuming I really was, which is pretty likely ?>:D ) and I appreciate guys who perform a public service and get shot at for their efforts, but . . . . oh never mind, you have your job and I have mine. Peace. And you are performing a service top this group by advising what we can get ticketed for, so thanks, it is valuable information, whether we agree with it or not.

Goo = instigator!

(repeat to myself, I will not start a debate, I will not start a debate . . ?:-X )

I gave Aegis credit for letting us in on what will get you ticket in his jurisdiction, that works for me (I didn't say I would blithely accept the ticket though ?>:D )

(psssst, Goo, I would bet it would be a 24003 violation, but I am not a CA resident, although I was born there way back when)

Thanks for the input

Yeah, those mods to the corner lenses are illegal for sure
I have attacked a photos of my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban with a totally clear front end, and have been able to avoid any trouble, even though they7 are illegal. I am very good with cars and would be able to take them out if anyone has done it.

Sorry to look like a tool in the photo
The pose was intensional

Keep the post alive

Anthony

It's gets quiet around here between 3 - 4:30 am CST

I actually use all of the resources available to me ... but any good Moderator would know that ;)

Maybe I did not make this clear enough.. A clear lens over a colored bulb would probably be ok.. What I am talking about is removing the amber or red ie no color at all or green blue in place of...In So Calif there are many Hondas and Acuras that the younger generation are doing some exotic mods,,just asking for our attention. And I would not cite anyone who drives an AV !!

goo,

The sections can vary but the more common used in Calif are

24002 ,, 26100

24002 is a catch all section

26100 deals with any mod or unaproved type lighting

As far as headlights go I don't have the answer to that question.. They may vary from state to state. It would be more difficult to write a ticket for headlights unless it was quite obvious that you were running something different. I have not written a ticket for headlights in years. In the early 80'S there were the gray marked mercedes and Porsche's that were imported to the US. Many modifications were necessary to meet US standards. The european headlights in that era were illegal and very easy to spot . As I recall a Mercedes needed some 44 changes made to meet US regs at that time. Look around on your cars you will find DOT in several places tires, glass, seatbelts, used to be on headlights too. I have not checked lately I assume this is still the case.

In my day I did write lots of tickets. Now unless you really do something stupid or have something way out of line I am not going to bother with it.

I never speed in my indigo blue av...never! Cause that would be against the law. ;D ;) Sorry...didn't mean to get off topic.

I fear for a guy named "goo" in the big house . . . . not a place you want to be winning the popularity contests

goo

I have noticed on other posts how much of a help you have been and I appreciate your time into looking for other threads

I am a member of other chevy truck forums, and have never seen anything on Avs before

I have worked on three gm trucks so far, and I am sure that the small amber reflective pieces are removable based on other vehicle conditions.

If anyone has anything to sugest, I am all ears

vlkwagen ...

This is where I saw some others do it on non-AV's:

Clearing Lenses

Be warned ... that site is NOT run by same ToS as ours

ps - see snowlep ... it is all in how you ask ;D

I visited that other forum, and you know, I just don't get that warm fuzzy "you're welcome here Avalanche owner" feeling I get here at the CAFCNA site.
Seems like I don't belong there!!
Seriously though, a short visit there made me really appreciate "our" club!

That is why I posted the warning.

I do the research so you guys don't have to go through that. I thought you might appreciate CAFCNA more if you see where we could be without some policies ;D

Well Goo

I have done that same mod on a GMC Sierra and the result was extra positive. The owner of the truck has told me that the clear silicone i used has worked perfectly and that there is no humidity in the lamps at all. On the GMC it was simple and only required the removal of a small sliding reflector. I was wondering if this mod has ever been tried on an Av. The other site was junk compared to this one, and there were very few people there with Avs

Thanks for your help
