Front Wheel Opening Molding

Anyone know why there is a wheel opening molding on the front my 2003 Av 2500? I have never seen this on any 1500 model and the WBC models have a completly different setup. I can take a picture if you need to see it.

The 2500's have this and the 1500's do not. Do a search, it has been discussed here before.

It has been discussed in great detail because we can not figure out why they didn't do the back while they were doing the front. The front one is on there because the 2500's are required to have "fender flares" to extend past the tires in some states, so they all get them.

Sorry Butch if I wasted your time... I did do a search and found nothing but I guess you could have done better. This was also my first question to the forum and I did read the "Read this before you post" but it did not warn me that posting a question that had been asked before would make me a looser.

Welcome to the club i2tall2c!

I can't comment on Butch's motivations when he replied to your post, only he knows what he was thinking, but I don't think he meant to call you a loser.

When posting and when reading posts, we all need to keep in mind that since there are no inflection or facial cues involved in the typed word, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the motivation behind a set of words. Often times, the writer's intent is misunderstood, especially in the case of humor and sarcasm.

When posting, we must be careful of how we phrase our replies so that we don't give the wrong impression. Similarly, when reading a post, we must be sure that we don't jump to conclusions about what the other person is saying: if there are multiple possible meanings, give that other person the benefit of the doubt.

There is a lot of information here on this board, and searches can be difficult at times. We all just have to do our best to search, and be tolerant if someone's search doesn't turn up the desired information.

This topic is a prime example: this topic has the title "wheel opening molding" and those are probably the words that were used for the search. While those words accurately describe the part under question, it is unlikely that there will be many matches. Now, someone who has been here for a while will probably remember them being discussed under the name "over wheel cladding." While it is easy to simply write "It's been discussed, do a search" it isn't very helpful. It would be better to include a couple of search terms that will work, or a few links to the existing topics. If that is too much work, it would probably be better to post nothing.

i2tall2c,

I did a search also, however, the search engine never seems to find what I need. I don't think it likes me much!

Anyway, make sure you adjust the days to go back. This will open the search to last years posts. Good luck!

Welcome to the group - 2500's are a great choice, unfortunately the fender wells are a tad restrictive, if not strange - you will discover this quickly if you change to more agressive tires.

It is my understanding that the WBH models can actually have "flares" added - should be real nice for those folks - but there isn't a 2500 WBH - yuch!

The front moulding pieces are on the 2500's because the front wheels stick out wider that they do the on rear. They help keep the road grime and dirt from being thrown all over the paint. I took mine off because I do not like the way they look and I feel they should have put them on the rear aswell so it would be symetrical.

Here's the old thread on Over Wheel Cladding

It discusses a wide range of related topics including adding the cladding over the rear wheels as well as the front - there are some creative folks on this board!

IMO . . . if I get the urge to tell someone that there's already a thread on a topic, I'll search and find that thread and post the link (as above). I've also seen moderators close new threads and encourage adding info to the old one - but in this case the old one is so long and diverse, it seems to make sense to leave the new one in place.

Sorry just passing by and felt my ears burning...

In this post I'm not refering to the black plastic flare on the outside of the fender. I was at the autoshow in Toronto. On the 1500, when I looked up inside the front fender wells. The model with boby cladding had plastic all the way around inside the fender. The model without body cladding has plastic inside the fender well, but not at the very top of the fender. It's painted metal. I would think that having plastic all around would eliminate stone chips. I ask the on site expert about it. He said he never noticed it, nor did he bother looking at it with me. He said the engineers must have had a good reason for it. Perhaps we can have an engineers comment.
