No, the second pump is activated as boost increases, so you need to know about what psi of boost requires the need for the second pump. If your running a max of 7psi you may need it at 4 -5psi, if you max boost is 10psi you may need to bring it on at 6-7psi. and so on. A couple of runs monitoring air/fuel ratio and/or fuel trims will tell you.
You'll usually only need it when pushing the pedal past 60-70 percent or at WOT. If you run the two 255LPH pumps (510LPH assembly) you might need to bring the second pump on earlier than the 750 LPH assembly using two 340 LPH pumps.
And yes you 8-AN and run new lines to the fuel rail, you could just run an adapter off the stock fittings or drill that out and put a 8-AN bulkhead for a the new line.
You can build you own system below, knowing exactly what you need the hard part...
