Fuse For Trailer Hitch

Look under the hood on the left side behind the battery there is a black box, lift off the cover and on the lid it will tell you which fuse it is.
The fuse is with the brake controler wire that came in the glove box ;)

"The fuse is with the brake controler wire that came in the glove box " The 2003's did not come with the brake controller wire. I still do not know which fuse we are talking about. I have my schematic for the underhood fuses, but can not ID which fuse is the culpret! Any help?

Dan

My 2003 did not come with anything like that. Just had the manual and onstar paperwork in the glove box. I was told that the 03 do not come with anything extra. Can someone please tell me if I'm missing something and exactly what is should be?

The 2003 may be different, I can only speak about the 2002. Just about every line going to the trailer has its own fuse under the hood. The tail, left, and right (and I think reverse) lights all have their own fuse labeled something like "Trlr xxx"

Then there are the aux power and trailer brake lines. These are powered from the "Stud1" and "Stud 2" fuses. These fuses may or may not be installed from the factory.

Again, if you have a 2003, the fuses may be different.

On my 2003 Z-66, while standing against the fender, open the fuse box behind the battery. The top left position is Stud 1, remove the blank and install a 30 amp fuse. This will supply power to the trailer power wire in the 7 wire harness. Hope this helps.

Stud-1 on the top-left is the right place. While my 2003 Z-66 did not come with the wiring harness, it did come with a fuse already installed! I purchased a spare though...

Quick followup - I purchased the Prodigy brake controller and it had an option to buy a pre-assembled, 2003 GM truck wiring harness all set to go with the controller. I think it was $8 while my dealer quoted me $30 for the harness with loose wires. When the controller arrived it was a simple snap-snap plug in and I was all set!

You guys are correct!! Stud 1 has a blank in place, and GM did not supply a fuse. Tonighgt I will head to and Auto Parts store and purchase a 30 amp fuse. Is this a Maxi fuse?

Thanks, Dan

I also bought the Prodigy and installed the custom harness from RJays, it powered up with no need to add a fuse. Does this mean that the trailer plug is fully powered or is it just the brake controller?

Just picked up a new boat/trailer on Friday and noticed the passenger rear turn signal wasn't working on the trailer. Boat dealer plugged in a diagnostic plug into my factory trailer wiring harness and there was no power to the right turn signal. Towed the boat home anyway as it wasn't obstructing my AV's tail lights. Figured I was going to have to crawl around under the AV with a circuit tester until I read ShapeShifter's post of a little over a year ago. Hot damn, every electrical line to the trailer is seperately fused. I'll check it out tonight after work.

The fuse that supplies power for the brake controller is already installed. The fuse that supplies power to charge an onboard RV battery is missing.
