FYI On Strange Knocking Sound In Rear

I few weeks back I posted about a strange knocking sound I heard while turning without accelerating. It was 1-5 knocks in the turn.

Anyway, three dealers turned me away saying this was normal. So I test drove a new av with no noise. After 3 days in service and just about everything taken apart from the cab back, they found it.

The av uses crappy body mounts. Thats right. So if you hear this sound, tell the dealer to check the body mounts.

How many body mounts are on our trucks? Which ones gave you the problem? And, did they recommend or replace yours with higher quality mounts? Sorry to hear about your trouble. It's very annoying to know something isn't right but just can't put your finger on what it is and it really doesn't help when the dealer gives you the "It's normal" line. Glad you found out what it was.

we have a knocking sound in the rear of our avalanch when we are backing up a steep hill ( our driveway). This occurs when we give it a little gas and torque. It only does this one time while backing. The bill date on our Z71-1500 is05/02. ??? Moose

While I don't have this problem - I love that this post is going to help someone who does have the problem.

Thanks for sticking with it Rinker and getting this resolved and sharing.

Thank you for the info. It is posts like these that dealerships like mine will gain alot of information from. My dealership uses this site as a last resort for fixing the unknown. You have saved many from grief and torment. Posts with results!! I LOVE IT!!! >:D ;D >:D ;D

Thanks again!!

I had a knock up under my feet, when I'd turn the wheel in either direction or hit a bump at parking lot speeds, with the wheel turned. When it got real bad, it'd happen even when I braked or accelerated hard.

I hit the body mount, and all of the drivers wheel parts heavily with WD-40, and it went away. I never really tracked it down, so I'm not sure what it was. I suspected either a loose body mount or sticking torsion bar. Hmm!
