Gas to diesel swap

Okay, so my 2013 Avalanche has already had the spark plugs & wires replaced, rear main seal, oil pump check valve, and valve covers. When parked or stopped I can smell burning oil. We just wiped out our savings and spent $3500 on this. I see this is a common problem on the 5.3L engines and I'm just done. Also, I miss having a diesel since I went from a 1998 Chevy Suburban with a 6.5L diesel. Has anyone changed out the gasoline engine for a diesel successfully?

yes alaska_av installed a duramax but I think he just put the avy body on the duramax truck frame??

I forget but I think you can find hos thread full of pictures and such and see or send him a message for more info...

09-13 ish Dmax wrecked truck,
2500 Suburban/Yukon xl frame 02-16 ish,

How long did it take you to do it & how much for cost?

Simple answer... 10K and a year..
Harder answer is
2 wrecked trucks. Years of planning. Years of experience working on cars.
2 months of hard swapping parts, 2 months fiddling with issues.
buying and selling parts from the carcasses to spend some of that 10k 2-3 times
waiting 6mo to afford doing head gaskets, $1200 in parts...
Having the shop and tools to blow out 2 trucks. All during the day job...
8 years later its still not to the planed finish point...

Go for it if you can!
