I already have the 9005/9006 SilverStar combo so I have the nice, bright white illumination at night.

My question is this: why couldn't I have gotten 2 sets of 9005 - one for lo and the other for hi?

I mean the only difference between the two is the 9006 are 55W and the 9006 are 65W. Is it just too much current draw? Too much heat? This has been bothering me and no one has really addressed this issue... as far as I know anyway ???

not sure if this is the reason, but I tried putting the 9005 in the lowbeams and found out that the plugs are different. I saw some headlights made by Hella that directs it's beam in the direction that your car is turning.. now that is something I gotta have! After that, I plan on installing disco balls in place of my foglamps (y)

Some interesting responses thus far. Not to argue, but how can one bulb change the way it casts it's beam pattern? Isn't that accomplished by the light box and the reflectors in the box?

I can believe the plugs to be different to prevent you from doing this.

I don't need anything brighter than I have now. Just a little curious and wanting to learn more...

well, with the Hella, it's not the bulb itself but the whole headlight. It contains some sort of yaw-sensor. try www.hella.com to read more about it.

new to these forums, but definitely got some great info. here on the avalanche! I have a 2002 1500 - I saw the post on the silverstar 9005/9006, is there a bulb replacement for the driving lamps as well?

okay here is a far fetched theory since i have no knowledge of the bulbs that are being referenced. we have two bulbs of similar design the only difference is the distance between the filiment and the base of the bulb. For example....bulb a has a distance on 1\2 inch and bulb b has a distance of 5/8 inch between the filiment and the base of the bulb. With that theory in mind I would think that it would give your headlights blury vision or at least change the focal point.

This is all just speculation on my part. May need to get the av's eyes checked. Wouldn't that be something an av with glasses >:D >:D
