Well I should be able to report on how the Avalanche does in deep snow and terrible road conditions. I'm going up to Stevens to ski tomorrow and check out the Chevy Truck SkiFest, which will be featuring the Suburban, Trailblazer and the Avalanche.

In the last 24 hours Stevens Pass has received 29" of snow and they are expecting 4 to 8 more inches. The pass is still open by all vehicles are required to wear chains unless you have AWD or 4WD ;D

No problemo officer - have Avalanche will travel, even when there is an Avalanche of snow on the ground!

saint patricks day 02 .anchorage alaska was hit with 28 inches of the white stuff. And I had to go to work. I drove well over 150 mi that day. Plowed berms allmost 4 foot blocked everything. School was closed 2 days and they never closed for snow days in the 12 years that I went. The city was locked down. Cars and trucks frozen in place from the night befour the snow. All sorts of cars poking out from odd places. Cars abandoned in intersections where they could not take anymore. Tow trucks tring to cope with thousands of imoble rides.

I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! I HAD TO HOLD IT BACK! NEVER WAS I REALY CONCERNED THAT I WOULDNT BE HOME ON TIME!!!

Wish again i had taken more picts

Wife doesn't know I did this but in december-01 at 40 below. I took her out on a lake. I decided to know what she could do. I turned off the ice road through the snow berm an took off across the lake. The snow was allmost over the rims. laying the hammer down I got up to 45. I eased the seat back and set the cruise. I had a ruster tail like a speed boat. As far back as I could see, was snow flying. Snow machiners heading the other way , turned around and cought up to me. Two on both sides of me. I got some thumbs up and shaking heads. Sadly the fun had to come to an end. I wanted to go back with my dv-cam the next week. film it for comercial or somthing. could you imagine? Well never made it back. maby next year. Any one else want to go.

Well thats good to know how your Av worked in the snow some info please:
Did you use 4 hi or 4 low
Overdrive or 3 drive
Tow Haul mode or not ??? ??? ???

Well 4-hi did just fine. On snow and ice 4-low has way to much torque.
The second tranny in my 86 chev half ton tought me overdrive is for roads. So 3rd did just fine.
Unlike the 97 f-150 that i dumped like a hot rock for the AV, tow haul made no noticable diferance that I remember. Never would have thought about lake running in it!
Hope that helps............got to LUV this truck.

P.S. wife read the e-mail reply first so now I must go wash her car. ;)

I guess I'll have to wait until next year to see snow...although we will never see snow like that around here....I would like to take a trip up to let's say buffalo where they always seem to get pounded with snow every season....and really play in the white powder.... :B:

NJAV

OK SNOW in Buffalo is a fact of life. Where else can you get 48 inches of snow in just 36 hours. The AV was put to the cold weather test and it was impeccable. I had to laugh when THE WEATHER Channel mobile studio got stuck at a hotel near the airport. The gentlemen reporting on the snowfall must have been from a fair weather city. He could not believe the amount of snow. To sum it up The AV in rain, snow or mud is the best vehicle to own. I welcome all of you that would like to plan a trip to Buffalo when it snows. Trust me when I say YOU WILL have fun in the snow.

Only Alaska_AV can understand what I mean.

That would be nice....a couple of Av's in the snow doing a little playin....that sounds good to me...so when is the caravan heading up this winter.... :B:
