Getting Lifted

forgiven1 said:
I would like information on the best and least expensive way to lift my 2002 1500 av.

Can you come to the Pismo Beach meet this weekend? At least 6 lifted AVs are going. Lots of first hand looks and advice.

The cheapest way to do a decent lift would be to use a 3" body lift to lift your av. These run around $500-$800. All it does is lift the body off the frame.

A "REAL" lift kit doesn't raise the body but raises the suspension. Usually comes with lots of steel to replace stock suspension pieces. These run around $2500 installed.

Flyn body lifts run about 300 dollars.. Check with Alaska_Av he just bought one
As you say a "real lift" All lifts leave your "pumpkin" dragging. Just because you spent the money on a suspention lift, dont think that your lift is better than anybody elses...Not an attack... Just correcting information

i agree that he shouldn't down people with body lifts but i understand his perspective...before i read alot here in the club...the only kind of lift i knew about was suspension lift...I learned about body lifts here and have concluded body lifts are not really for hardcore off-roading...they can help with clearing tires but for off-roading concerns suspension lift is the way to go...seeing as this member has a 2wd av...i'd recommend a body lift...i don't even know of any kits off hand built for the 2wd av's...not meaning that they are out there...but most 2wd av's stick more to the road with a few exceptions...and not all 4wd av's see dirt which is mho is a shame and a waste of 4wd components that could be spare parts for mine...

There have been a few members that have lifted their Z-66 Av's with Suspension lifts. I believe that you end up with some extra parts. I know there was a memeber "LiftedZ-66" that owns a shop that does that kind of work in Texas, but I haven't seen him on for quite some time.

I am not trying to down body lifts. IMHO lifting the body and exposing the frame is just Fugly to me. The biggest benefit to the body lift is its lower cost. It allows people to run larger tires without having to spend some serious cash on a full suspension lift, but it doesn't help make it any more off-road worthy.

I'd like to thank everyone for their replies. I think I'll try a 3" body lift, then get a 3" suspension lift later. I would like the clearance for larger tires-I can't stand the street tires it came with. I do some off road driving but not to the extent of needing a 4x4, although sometime I wonder. Again thanks to all that replied. :B:

SimTechRay , were you able to keep your front molded mud flaps with the 285/70R17 tires. I saw your site and the trimming, just wondering.

I finally did my body lift. Thanks for your help a year ago when I was asking around about lifts (y)

IMHO the AV's bumpers should have been this far off the ground from the factory. At least you could get over the curb to go 4X4 without smashing out your fogs or ripping rear bumper cover off getting back on the road :6: So I give the body lift 8 snaps up. Good luck forgiven1
