Getting To The Grill.

I have a billet grill that I want to attach to the oem grill. I do not think that I have to take the whole grill assemble off to do this mod if I can only figure out how to get the black cover off of the top of the grill. The three retaining clips towards the back of the cover are easy, but I can't seem to figure out how to take off the front two, which is all I really need to be able to install my mod.

I had this same issue. I was able to determine that the top portion from the grille to the radiator area is actually attached to the grille. Those three plastic bolts that have to be pryed off and then the set piece removed actually assist in holding the grille to the truck. If you gently (and I mean GENTLY) pull that section up a little just to get your fingers under there then, starting at one end, begin pulling it toward you and a little down at the same time, the "power bar" where the chevy emblem is begins to detach from the truck. There are 5 or 6 clips and some very sticky clips (that are accustomed to breaking at the end of the power bar) holing that area on to the truck. There are a few more clips in the area below the headlights. I found that a screwdriver helps to pry the area between the fender and just below the headlight off.
It's not hard, but I couldn't find another way to get back there. (you don't even have to remove any of the lights. Everyone says "expect to break at least 2 clips, I didn't and I have removed it 3 times...but be careful and be prepared if you do break clips.

Good luck!

EarthQuake,
Could you post some picts of this by any chance?

Well, I really don't have any. I'm not normally patient enough to take pics when I'm doing a mod. I would go home and do it, but I've just put a brush guard on and it doesn't allow me the freedom to get the grille off as easily.
I'll see if I can find some though.

Great. Thanks for the extra effort!

Thanks earthquake. I didn't have to take the grill off completely to get the overlay on, just the top clips and the ones holding the bar across, and you were right, if you are careful, nothing breaks. Thanks again.
