DETROIT - General Motors Corp. today announced an enhancement of its retail marketing program on 2002 model year vehicles. Effective September 19 and continuing through September 30, GM will offer APR financing rates of 0.0% on terms up to 60 months for qualified buyers on the purchase of all new 2002 GM models including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, HUMMER, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn.

"We believe that our offer is unquestionably the best in the industry," said Bill Lovejoy, group vice president of GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "There are no exceptions, no fine print and no gimmicks. For qualified consumers who are shopping for model year-end bargains, our zero percent offer on every '02 model is as good as it gets.

"Our dealers have done a great job selling down 2002s, but we still have some inventory available," Lovejoy said. "In addition to GM's new offer on'02s, we have compelling zero percent offers on our '03s as well."

As with recent marketing programs, GM will use prominent national, regional and local marketing campaigns to leverage all of its vehicle divisions and GM dealers in the marketplace. A heavy schedule of national print and TV advertising for the new program begins this Friday in newspapers, with TV spots beginning on Saturday. Divisional, regional, and local dealer marketing group ads will follow.

The program on 2003 models remains unchanged. As previously announced, GM continues to offer APR financing rates of 0.0/2.9/3.9% (36/48/60 months) or customer cash of $1,000, $1,500 or $2,000 for qualified buyers on the purchase of all new 2003 model Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac cars and trucks through October 31. Saturn, Saab, and HUMMER are excluded from the 2003 program.

These guys are very serious about selling cars! What a great time to be a buyer.

It's all gonna come back and bite GM in the hiney in 9-12 months, when everyone that wanted a new car already bought one because of the deals. I think this time next year the deals will be long gone, and the new car market will be too.

I don't think this has been posted, yet, but Chevy announced 0% for 5 years on 2002 AV's this morning. ?My Z66 will be at my front doorstep tomorrow afternoon!

The dealers I talked to today all seemed very anxious to get them off their lots and ready to deal.

Happy hunting!

That's what they said about after the attacks on 9-11-01 that GM's Keep America Rolling and the subsequent matches by the "Other Two" were going to pull ahead the buyers from '02, but on the contrary, just the opposite has happened, 2002 is going to be one of the three best sales years ever! I just wish I hadn't gotten mine when I did so I could've taken advantage of the fantastic deals, there were no rebates even when I got mine, much less 0 percent Financing!! :8: :B:

Another thought, with all the deals and low or no interest deals, people will be able to pay off their vehicles earlier and if it has held up to their likeing, they will be able to buy another new GM car or truck sooner! SURE WISH I COULD! :C: :B:

0% Finance Deals For 2002 Vehicles

DETROIT -- For General Motors Corp., it is back to zero. The auto maker reintroduced 0% financing for 60-month loans on 2002 models two weeks after ending the program. Dealers say GM faced slowing sales as bargain-hunting U.S. consumers sought better deals elsewhere.

The new GM five-year, 0% loan offer runs through the end of the month and covers all GM brands, including Saturn, Saab and Hummer. Those three brands haven't offered 0% rates since last September, when GM initiated the 0% rate for five-year financing as a way to jump-start U.S. auto sales.

The latest move is a fresh sign of how difficult it will be for Detroit's big auto makers to wean consumers from five-year same-as-cash loan deals, particularly as the economy remains in low gear.

"People in the market right now are geared toward bargains," said Julie Hamp, a spokeswoman for the No. 1 auto maker. "We thought there would be more of a pickup on 2003's. We quickly saw people were shopping 2002 year-end bargains."

GM's finance chief John Devine said the company will continue to use aggressive discounts and other sales incentives to keep customers buying. He said sales are likely to be somewhat weaker in September because it has sold out many of its 2002 models, while rivals still have more 2002 inventory.

"We were at a competitive disadvantage," Mr. Devine said, noting that GM's sales weakness isn't likely to last much more than a month, after which it will have built up 2003 inventory.

GM brought back the 0% financing offer on five-year loans to clear out remaining 2002 inventory during the summer. Rival auto makers responded with competing 0% deals and other incentives and drove the U.S. auto market to its highest sales pace of the year. After increasing sales by 18% in August and depleting inventories, GM dropped 0% financing on the 2002 models in favor of higher rates of 1.9% to 2.9%.

But GM's increases didn't stick, partly because rivals Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG continued their 0% offers on many models and had bigger stocks of vehicles to sell. Ford is also promoting a "Free Ride" deal that allows buyers to defer the first loan payment until January. DaimlerChrysler is offering a seven-year, 100,000-mile extended-warranty protection.

"Sales are pretty bad right now," said Jim Toole, the new truck-sales manager at Faulkner Chevrolet in Lancaster, Pa. "We're having a rough month. I got to think Ford is getting a better percent of the business because of 0%." Mr. Toole said dealers needed 0% financing to get customers inside showrooms. "Maybe we won't sell them another 2002, but it gives us a sales opportunity," he said.

Overall Mr. Devine said the signs of weakness elsewhere in the economy haven't significantly affected the auto business. "We think it'll hold up, we think the consumer's still there." He said auto sales appear likely to hold up in 2003 around the near-record levels expected this year. "We think the probability right now is that 2003 will look a lot like 2002," he said. "The economy is improving and that over time will be good for the car business," he said. GM also recently reiterated that it will earn more than $1 a share in the third quarter.

Does anybody have an inside view, speculate, or see a trend that they will drop to 0% for 60 on '03 models?

I figure that the economy is still not that great and summer is over which might encourage them to do it for '03's once '02 inventory is cleared. Just my unsubstantiated opinion though.

No offense to '02 owners, but I really like the new black cladding. The '03 I want is sitting in a dealer lot right now, and man is it sweet, but I'm afraid that the 0% for 60 is my breaking point to pull the trigger.

I asked my friend (owns dealership) on Friday when I picked up my vette under this deal. He didn't seem to think there was anything happening soon.

But then again, the fact that the 0% for 60 months applied to vette's totally surprised him. so who knows...
