I am makiing a "last" ditch effort to find out if I can use the GMS pricing for my new 03 Z71 I am picking up today.

Has ANYBODY been able to use this "without" having a realative working at GM or being a GM supplier?

It's not like I want to be cheating here but it never hurts to ask and maybe I missed something in my searchs.

"D-man" (Hours countdown to pick-up)

I got to use GMS because I work at Sun Microsystems and we supply systems to GM. SO in turn they allow us the GMS discount.

However.....

For me to use it, I had to log to a super secret web site and then fill out a form. About 1 month later i recieved paperwork in the mail to take with me to the dealer. Paperwork was filled out GMS discount form from GM with all my information and discount information filled in. All I had to do was sign it.

If you don't have the paperwork with you i am not sure how you would get discount. Plus keep in mind, dealer does not have to honor GMS it is purely voluntary on the dealers part.

I was able to use GM pricing because my dad retired from GM. However, I guess they've changed how they "award" the discount due to fraud in the past.

Now, the eligible "employee" must call GM and give the information about the buyer.

Nope. That's why they've made the system harder to "cheat". You have to work for GM, a GM supplier, or be a very close relative of a GM employee... Who in turn has to get the number from GM... No number, no discount...

(grateful my dad works for GM)

If you want to delay picking up the Av for a week or so you can see if your company qualifies as a GM Supplier. Go to www.gmsupplier.net and fill out the form or call the 800 number. They will require proof of employment and will then send you the above mentioned form, all filled out for you.

Saved me about $6,000

If you are in Law enforcement or Fire you can qualify for the GMS pricing. I just bought a 2003 loaded 2500 Suburban and saved nearly 7K off sticker price. I down loaded the form from the web sight and had to fax proof that I am a LEO. ?I had no problems at all with GM on the deal and probably would not have bought it withought the pricing. :) :)

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Gary. I wish I had known about that back in February. Were you still able to take advantage of the GMAC deals on financing with this? How much less than invoice did the price end up being?

Thats right your a fireman.. I did not go with GMAC financing. I belong to Lockheed Fed Credit Union. I went with the 2K cask back and financed thru the C U . Overall the price was approx 1500 below factory invoice. The Suburban stickered for 46.9 round about. And with the discounts and GMS got it down to around 40K + - . I don't know if the pricing was available a year ago Sept (for LEo& Fire) when I got the AV.

Small world, Aegis. I was a member of LFCU. Worked for LSCC before they decided they wanted out of the Pacific NW. I guess I didn't do too bad with my deal afterall. ;D

Aegis, Thanks for the info. I will have to check on this when I buy my 2500HD. I got my Harley through a similar program, but I sure wish I had known that sooner! May have saved some money!

Thanks all for the info...

SJ... Well, I couldn't wait and I do not beleive that my company would even be considered (Large "electrical" construction firm), for GMS pricing and my other business (Cutting Edge Motorsports) would not qualify as (street and racing performance).

However.... In simplest terms or the most convenient definition, (OK what movie??)..... I got the following...

2003, Z71, ALL options and I mean ALL except for the plow and roof rack, (DVD but that didn't come with the "roof-hole"), hell I even got an engine block heater (not by choice.. I wouldn't think they would have even sold that option is So. Cal.).......

Anyway....

- $ 42,490.00 MSRP

- $ 34,890.00 actual purchase price including rebates.

Saved $ 7,600.00 off of sticker.

I went with my wifes work (U.S.A.A.) and got a high 4% rate after putting over $20K down.

So... I didn't get the GMS but I am happy with the truck and the price..

(NOW it's time to save for that blower >:D >:D )

Thanks again everyone.

I can put you in touch with the guy for the blower >:D >:D

I'm pretty sure you know who Brian Robbins is.

He's a good friend of ours who along with Troy Critchley builds our race car engines.

Talk about walking in a room and getting a woody... You should see the blowers this man has in his shop.

Unfortunately most of the engines they build are in the $50k range and won't bolt in to an Av.

there is one other way to get a gms price if the dealer is willing to give you his discount of gms. he can make his money on the rebates and the 5% they get from GM.

There is a long specific process in obtaining GMS pricing. I highly doubt a dealer could or would give that price to an ineligible buyer.
I had to talk to GM and get some type of GMS coupon or document mailed to the dealer to obtain.

Zimms, GMS doesn't work through the mail any more. They stopped that and revamped quite a bit of the system at the end of November. Reason I know is that I got my GMS discount number before then, but had to redo it all to pick up my AV on Dec 7th because the old number had "expired".

Now the eligible GM employee/retiree calls GM with the buyer's information (Name, SSN, relationship, etc.) and GM faxes the authorization number paper directly to the dealership that the vehicle is being purchased from. Works a LOT faster than before since there's no snail mail involved, but they're probably watching that the buyer is actually elligible a little closer. Violation of their relationship requirements can get the employee/retiree suspended from the program forever or even fired.

There's still a GMS loophole if you have a GM credit card. When the dealer calls in to verify your points tell the person from the credit card company that you have a relative that works for GM. I do, but there was no verification whatsoever, and the additional rebate was $500. I just did this last week. The salesman knew of the loophole. saved me $500 I didn't expect, so I spiffed him $100 when he delivered the truck.

So it sounds like my form may not be any good now. I qualified through my Employer, but have had my form for several months now. Dam it might even be a year or more! I already misplaced it once and had them send me another. :cautious:
