Fellow AV Owners,

I am taking the fam to San Antonio this weekend for a week. I plan on camping most of the time. I didn't want to camp on base the whole time. Anyone know any cool places we should stay at.

I heard that there are some cool state parks a little north of San Antonio.

Your thoughts,

Jim

There are a number of places that would be good. If it wasn't for the flooding out at Canyon lake (by New Braunfels) you could camp out at the sites at the Ft Sam Houston and /or Randolph rec areas. Of course all the bases here (Randolph, Brooks, Ft Sam and Lackland)have Fam Camps. I'm not sure what condition they are in but there are sites along the Comal river in New Braunfels, and along the Guadalupe off of river road.

Check the link for the New Braunfels Cruise that Goo set up in July.

Taking US 90 west you will be near Lost Maples and Garner State park. There is Black rock park in Marble Falls. Check this link for pictures:

Take 281 North to Johnson State park near Johnson City, TX. There are many sites off of IH 10 and also Texas 16 in the Hill Country area near Boerne and Kerrville...so many choices.

Best to check with a search engine for Texas parks and RV sites near here.

I will be gone this weekend to Ft Worth, but will be back next week. Let me know where you end up.

Hope this helps a little.

TerryB,

Thanks for the good info. The wife is interested in the Guadalupe camping so I think we are going to camp in the park there.

I'll let ya know the results.

Later,

Jim
