I picked up my '02 AV today...Man is it shweet! HOWEVER, I NOTICED THEY PUT A SMALL DING IN IT WHEN DETAILING IT!!! :7: :8: :7:
Well, they wrote it down and gave me a reciept and say they will repair to my satisfaction...Very small but someone opened a door into it... :7: :8:
Just got to drive it a bit today...I gotta get used to this height and there is soooooo much room! I am 6'7" and I have NEVER owned a vehicle with sooooo much room!
Loving it already.
Tomorrow: Will it fit in the garage??? Time to move some stuff around in this garage.

Welcome silver....Looks like ur first mod will be ur garage ;D I just got mine and love the room I have inside, leg room is great. Im comming from driving a Astro van for 10 years so getting used to the blind spots and the size will take time................Enjoy ;D ;D

Congrats Silver!! Mine also came with the "Ding" option :8: I didn't want the option and they tried to remove it but they couldn't get rid of it completely becuase it was right at the edge of the rear fender well. :6:

I put my first ding in it when parking at home the day I got it. Didn't realize the front doors needed a football field of room at full swing. Whacked the door right into the wife's Taurus passenger side rearview mirror. Since then I have scratched the chrome on the grill, whacked the Taurus a few more times. Dings, I got dings, and caused all of them myself. But, I still haven't given any marks to someone elses property. Give it some time and I will correct that, I'm sure.

Welcome, Just remember the first ding's always the hardest. I expect quite a few livin in the wilderness.

Congrats Silver, sorry about the ding, try to avoid dent ;D

In your mods sig block, what does this mean:
60': 2.165

Thanks,
Larry

Congratulations Silversport on the purchase. I'm still waiting for my first ding but I know it will come. After the garage, any plans for MODs for the AV?

This is an important "drag strip" measure, the time to get the beast 60' from the starting line, this is the metric for how well the vehicle launches, tire slip, and performance in low gear.

The overall result is the time for either 1/8 mile if the track is short or more standard 1/4 mile - if the 60' number isn't low you are hard pressed to make it up in the remaining time.

Another measure is the 0 to 60 which is typically a measure of the ability to merge into traffic and rarely measured at the track.

I was watching a shuttle launch recently and thinking, wow, lousy 60' but great 1/4 million mile numbers ;D

Since your anwering questions, what does 4L85E mean?
The 4L85E is a 5 pinion [planetary] version of the 4L80E electronically controlled transmission - the original had 4 which limits the torque capacity. It was beefed up for the 8.1L option since the Allison wouldn't fit in the AV/Sub chassis. There is a lot of confusion even on GM literature since there is a 4L80E also - that and the larger differentials is the only thing that can take the torque from the 8.1L.

There is also a 4L65E, same mod, same reason, that is used with the 6.0 [I believe, can't prove it] according to my transmission sources.

Congratulations on the new Avalanche!

Gandolphxx -- Does that mean that the trans. in a 5.3 wouldn'd be able to handle the additional HP/Torque from a Whipple without modification?

No, I am only suggesting that remedial beefing up with a better back plate, Kevlar clutches and a Transgo would help, the rear end is a good match, but not super strong - Butch will chime in with even better opinions shortly since he has done the work on his 1500.

:8: I've received 1 ding and 2 scratches in the parking lot from jealous losers :8:

Think what our AVs would look like without the cladding!

Maybe we need a poll: How many dings have you got from careless, irresponsible yo yo's!

Thanks, everyone...I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!...
flyhigh: That's right where I have my ding... :6: :7: :8: :6:
jmbfin: 1st mod after cleaning out the garage is possibly the bug deflector, possibly those things round the windows (tinted deflectors), mudflaps maybe, but the very 1st thing is the FULL ZAINO TREATMENT!!!
I love this truk...111 miles and climbing!!! :B:  :B: ;D
